4-star SG Matthew Able commits to Miami
Matthew Able, On3’s No. 38 overall player in 2025, tells On3 he has committed to Miami.
The 6-foot-4 shooting guard out of Tampa (FL) Sagemont School chose the Hurricanes after taking official visits to Northwestern and Wake Forest. The four-star has now canceled his scheduled visits to Baylor, Boston College, and Xavier.
Matthew Able on his commitment to Miami
“What really made Miami the place for me was the coaching staff,” Able told On3. “Their vision and their belief in me was great. They also had a real family-type vibe with the players. They were all really cool and down-to-earth people. Not only that but the guys on the team can really play. For me winning is a huge thing and being a part of a winning culture is something that I want to be a part of and something I’m really looking forward to.”
Able said that he was able to build a good relationship with Miami head coach Jim Larranaga.
“My relationship with Coach Larranaga is super-good,” Able said. “He has so much knowledge about the game and how he connects with everyone. It was really great to talk with him and hear what his vision on basketball and players and just the game itself was really good. I can’t wait for him to coach me. I’m excited to play for him.”

The four-star shooting guard who shot 40.8 percent from three this season with the Southeast Elite team on the Adidas 3SSB Circuit said he liked his fit with the program.
“Some of the things they liked about my game the most was my shooting,” Able said. “I think I’m one of the best, if not the best shooters in the country. Definitely that is something I bring to the table and something they’re going to want me to do. But also, I’m a versatile defender, I can guard the one through three at the college level. Being a versatile defender and a great scorer as a combo guard or a lead guard they really liked in my game. But for me, at the end of the day, I’ll play wherever whatever they want that thinks it’ll help the team win.”
