Cortez Nebraska

Homestead (Fla.) wide receiver Cortez Mills has flipped his commitment from Oklahoma to Nebraska. The Cornhuskers gave the four-star a lot to think about in the summer when he committed to the Sooners and they never let up. That effort paid off.

“Nebraska never went away,” Mills told On3. “They stayed consistent with me. They showed me that I was a top priority for the program and that they really wanted me. How they stayed consistent and true to who they are was very important in my decision.

“The Nebraska coaches never let their foot off the brake. They recruited me, my mom, my sister, we all had a bond and that love meant something. We made the decision as a family that Nebraska is best for me.”

When Mills committed to Oklahoma, Emmett Jones had a lot to do with that. That connection is real, but the No. 138 prospect in the On3 Industry Ranking felt better about the total package at Nebraska.

“I love the atmosphere, the staff and how they all recruited me. Nebraska has great people on the staff, the fan base loves the players and Matt Rhule never backs down from competition. It is a program with great history and there is a lot I like about the school and the people there.”

The visit Mills took to Nebraska in September played a role in this decision

When Nebraska hosted Colorado in September, Mills was there. That trip to Lincoln made an impact on his decision.

“I decided to flip to Nebraska about two weeks ago, but I have been thinking about it for a while,” Mills said. “When I was there for the Colorado game, it really opened my eyes. I saw what Nebraska is about. The atmosphere was amazing, the team beat a top team and it really showed me a lot.

“After that visit, I thought about Nebraska a lot. Then the coaches kept recruiting me and I feel it is the best place for me. They have guys from my are, they are going to put me in place to make plays.

“At Nebraska, I feel I can get on the field early and shine in their offense. I will be an early enrollee, I will put in the work and I want to get there and shine.”
