Wesson (Miss.) Jackson Academy four-star wide receiver O’Mari Johnson has committed to North Carolina, he announced on Sunday via Instagram.

He chose the Tar Heels while also holding offers from Ole Miss, LSU, Florida State, Tennessee, South Carolina and others.

Johnson is the No. 265 overall prospect and No. 43 WR in the 2026 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He’s also the No. 12 player in Mississippi.

The 6-foot, 170-pounder returned to Chapel Hill for his official visit this weekend and is now in the boat for new head coach Bill Belichick and the Tar Heels.

After visiting last month, Johnson told On3’s Steve Wiltfong that UNC was going to be a team to beat in his process. He’s looking forward to the chance to play under a legendary head coach in Belichick and the new Tar Heels staff.

“What excites me the most about the Tar Heels are their interest in developing players,” Johnson said.

It’s been nonstop momentum for Belichick and Co. since they got off and running in Chapel Hill. After picking up some steam at the end of the 2025 cycle, commitments have continued to come flying in.

UNC now has 10 commits in its 2026 recruiting class. Johnson is the second-highest commit in the mix, behind just four-star defensive lineman Trashawn Ruffin, who flipped from Texas A&M last month. Ruffin is the No. 184 recruit and No. 17 DL in the cycle.

“Well first of all, UNC has the greatest coach of all time as far as I am concerned,” Ruffin told On3 upon flipping. “And an all-star staff. I feel that they can lead me in the right way in order to be developed as I should be. And the atmosphere was great when we were there.”

A trio of Golden State cornerbacks helped get the class going in January. Los Angeles Rancho Cucamonga three-star CB Justin Lewis, Gardena Junipero Serra three-star CB Marcellous Ryan and Concord De La Salle three-star CB Jaden Jefferson committed on consecutive days.

Other commits in the class include: Boston Dexter School three-star interior offensive lineman Anthony Hall, Hyattsville (Md.) DeMatha Catholic three-star IOL Zion Smith and New Rochelle (N.Y.) Iona Prep three-star running back Crew Davis.

The class ranks No. 28 in the nation and No. 5 in the ACC, according to the On3 Industry Team Recruiting Rankings.
