5-star safety Trey McNutt moves commitment date to August 3
Shaker Heights (Ohio) High On3 Industry five-star safety Trey McNutt was set to announce his commitment on Friday evening Florida, Ohio State, Oregon, Texas A&M and USC.
One of those schools will have to wait a few weeks to hear the good news of his decision though, as On3’s Steve Wiltfong reports that McNutt will now go public with his choice on August 3.
The decision to move it comes because a few key people he would like to be in attendance will not be able to make it on Friday, according to Wiltfong.
“I’m looking for a program that I love,” McNutt said earlier this week. “It has to be a family. A place that believes. Somewhere I can be developed the right way.”
Oregon is the On3 RPM favorite
Visits to Oregon in the spring and summer have put Dan Lanning and the Ducks in great shape to land one of their most coveted targets. His official was the weekend of June 21.
“Coach Lanning he’s a different type of coach,” McNutt told Wiltfong. “And he’s a different type of person. Oregon and their program is on the uprise and going into this season I feel like they’re going to make some moves.”

Oregon has the On3 Industry’s No. 4 ranked recruiting class. McNutt raved about the opportunity during the On3 Elite Series in May.
“Coach Dan (Lanning), his passion and how he is as a coach, he’s just different. I can see that they’re building the program up and they’re trying to get a national championship. They want it over there.”
Texas A&M the biggest challenger
The Aggies have also gotten McNutt to campus a couple times under Mike Elko and the new staff.
Defensive backs coach Ishmael Aristide has been leading the charge in pushing for McNutt.
“Just Coach Ish and Coach Elko and Coach (Jay) Bateman and the staff are great,” McNutt said. “Coach Elko’s defensive mind is elite. I just like Coach Ish and his personality and everything.
McNutt also gave the Aggies high marks in May.
“Mike Elko, it’s cool having a defensive head coach. Having him as also a safeties coach because he has a great mind as a defensive coach. Also with Coach (Ishmael Aristide)…growing as a coach, all of them have been recruiting me hard.”
The Aggies have On3’s No. 9 ranked recruiting class. His official visit was the weekend of June 14.
