5-star Kylan Boswell sets commitment date, narrows list
Five-star point guard Kylan Boswell will announce his college decision on Monday, February 28th at 3:00pm ET, according to Matt Babcock.
The 6-foot-2 junior out of AZ Compass Prep is set to decide between Illinois, Arizona, and UNLV. He has officially visited each of the three programs. Boswell previously considered Texas Tech, Michigan, Oregon, USC, and Kansas.
Boswell broke down each of the finalists in a previous interview with On3.
Illinois: The ‘Hometown’ School
Boswell is a Champaign, Illinois native, and lived there until he entered high school. The Fighting Illini would love nothing more than to see him return home for college.
“Coach (Brad) Underwood is my guy,” Boswell said. “I always text him and Coach (Geoff) Alexander. I definitely like their program a lot. They’ve done a great job in past years at building the program. I’m definitely going to take an official, I think in February. So I’ll go check it out and see how they’re running again. Other than that, it’s home. So of course they’re going to have a different level of engagement.”
Boswell also spoke to On3’s Jamie Shaw: “That is where I am from; being the hometown hero has always been a thing for me. Coach (Brad) Underwood and (Geoff) Alexander are my guys, and I talk to them all the time.”
Arizona: The closest program to Boswell’s high school
Boswell now lives in Chandler, Arizona as he attends AZ Compass Prep. The University of Arizona’s campus is just an hour and a half away.

“I like their fast-paced offense,” Boswell said. “Tommy (Lloyd) is kind of the mastermind behind the Gonzaga offense. They can score the basketball. Tommy is my guy. I really like Tommy a lot and the entire Arizona staff. I like the school a lot.”
Boswell to Shaw: “They have been recruiting me hard, and I am not that far from the program. I have been watching how they play their guards, and they have done really well this year.”
UNLV: Ties from home
Boswell’s first official visit was out to Las Vegas, to see the Runnin’ Rebels.
“Coach (Brandon) Chappell and coach (Kevin) Kruger recruit me…coach Kruger is from Champaign too.”
Boswell to Shaw: “I really like that visit, Coach (Brandon) Chappell and Coach (Kevin) Kruger are my guys. Coming in, I thought Vegas was just the strip, but their campus is isolated from that. I really liked what they showed me, and I’m taking them a lot more seriously after that visit. I learned a lot about their history, Tark and all that I didn’t know.”
Reclass option?
Rumors have swirled regarding Boswell reclassifying to 2022 and heading to college a year early.
On3’s Jamie Shaw spoke to Boswell a few weeks ago and got his take.
“I have talked about going to 2022 with my parents, and we are not sure,” Boswell said. “We are going to take our time with that decision.
Scouting Report
Kylan Boswell is one of the premier point guards in the 2023 class. You immediately notice the good weight he has put on since the summer. He plays with a great pace, very fast but still controlled. Boswell attacks the pick and roll well and makes excellent decisions out of it. He is an active defender both on the ball and in the passing lanes. While he does not have top of the line explosion, Boswell can get done what he needs on the court. Boswell is vocal, like a coach on the floor, and positive with his teammates. His demeanor and presence seems to breed winning.
