James Campbell quarterback and California commit Jaron-Keawe Sagapolutele

Ewa Beach (Hawaii) James Campbell quarterback Jaron-Keawe Sagapolutele is one of the fastest late risers in the 2025 recruiting class. After making an Elite 11 Finals appearance this summer and having an outstanding senior season on the field, Sagapolutele has shot up to five-star status in the latest release of the 2025 On300.

Sagapolutele has been committed to California since July 8, but a handful of top programs are putting in work to try to flip him away from the Golden Bears.

The 6-foot-2.5, 220-pound Hawaiian passer officially visited Oregon in October and was set to take an official visit to Georgia the weekend of Nov. 16. That scheduled visit got pushed back to Nov. 23 due to a high school playoff game.

Now, On3’s Chad Simmons reports that Sagapolutele will take his official visit to Georgia Thanksgiving weekend and will instead be back at Cal Berkeley this weekend for an unofficial visit.

Sagapolutele is the lone quarterback committed to California, whereas Georgia and Oregon both already have passers in their classes for this cycle. Findlay (Ohio) four-star quarterback Ryan Montgomery has been committed to Georgia since April while four-star Akili Smith Jr., Oregon legacy, has been with the Ducks since July 2023.

Scout’s Take on Jaron-Keawe Sagapolutele

On3 Director of Scouting and Rankings Charles Power wrote this about Sagapolutele as a prospect:

“Jaron-Keawe Sagapolutele has had one of the more meteoric rises we’ve seen from a quarterback in his senior season over the last couple cycles. He’s had a monster senior season at James Campbell High in Hawaii. He first came on the national radar at the Elite 11 Finals in the summer and really parlayed that into an outstanding final prep campaign. He is one of the most skilled passers in the 2025 cycle. He has one of the strongest arms that we’ve seen and has the ability to touch all areas of the field with his arm strength, but also can make a wide array of difficult throws. He can throw with touch, accuracy, outstanding timing, he leads his receivers, throws into tight windows and is just a top arm talent. A guy who is able to play with a level of nuance and skill as a passer — which is advanced and stands out.

His mobility, while not a strength of his game, is functional and he’s shown very good pocket awareness. He’s good against pressure, is able to step up and create when needed. If you were to just look at his film over the course of the season, it’s undeniable at this point and it’s really not surprising that top programs like Oregon and Georgia have offered him as a senior to add a second QB to their class. His level of play and the film he’s put together as a senior is hard to deny. This QB cycle is as deep at the top as one we’ve seen in quite some time, and Sagapolutele has really done enough as a senior, in our opinion, to insert himself into that five-star conversation as one of the more skilled passers in the cycle.”
