One of the top girls high school basketball prospects in the nation is closing in on a commitment.

Agot Makeer, an elite small forward out of Thunder Bay, Ontario, told 247Sports’ Dushawn London on Thursday that she’s down to Michigan State, South Carolina and UConn and will announce her commitment this Saturday, March 1.

Makeer previously had Duke, North Carolina and Kentucky also in her top list, but the trio is now out of the running with a decision coming this weekend. The McDonald’s All-American is the No. 4 overall prospect in the 2025 cycle.

“I’m a very competitive person,” Makeer previously told On3’s Talia Goodman. “My work ethic isn’t like a lot of the other girls in my class, and I feel like that puts me ahead sometimes. I’m versatile in a way that my body is different, I can get to the rim and score from the perimeter.”

Makeer talks Michigan State, South Carolina and UConn

In a previous interview with Goodman, Makeer broke down her interest in each of her finalists:

UConn: “It’s been my dream school ever since I was a kid. Them reaching out and wanting me to be part of their team has been kind of shocking, but at the same time, not really. They just make pros and that’s what attracts me to UConn.”

South Carolina: “It’s really good. I have a pretty good relationship with coach [Dawn] Staley. It’s one of the powerhouses of women’s basketball like UConn. It’s really cool to be recruited by them and I love what they do there for black women, especially. I really like that and I have a good relationship with the coaching staff, so I’m excited to get on campus.”

Michigan State: “Out of all of them, I have the best relationship with this coaching staff. Coach [Robyn] Fralick really knows what she’s talking about and she’s a winner. I really love what they’re doing at Michigan State and it’s close to home. It has a lot of pros – the facilities are elite.”

More on Makeer

“Even though she’s a small forward, Agot Makeer said NBA legends Kevin Durant and Steph Curry influenced her game the most while growing up. ‘I think my strength and is my versatility is what makes me different ,’ Makeer told Kentucky.com. ‘I can play one through five and can guard one through five. So, I think it’s just me being able to do different stuff on the court. Those are things that both of those guys can do – showcase their versatility.’ And those that follow Makeer closely can see the comparisons. ‘Her size, her length and her intelligence in the game are her strengths,’ said Richard Nurse, who coached Makeer for the Kia Nurse Canadian Elite EYBL program. ‘She’s also a great teammate. She talks, she communicates with the athletes. She plays well, she’s always helping all her teammates out.’ Makeer is originally from Fargo, North Dakota, but was raised in Thunder Bay, Ontario.”
