Sachse (Texas) High On3 Industry five-star receiver Kaliq Lockett will make his commitment decision on August 7, he announced on Wednesday.

Among the remaining contenders are Alabama, Florida State, LSU, Texas and Texas A&M.

He took official visits to each program during the month of June, with the Longhorns getting the final chance to woo him over the weekend. Coming out of those visits, Texas currently stands as the favorite to land him, according to the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine (RPM).

As a junior, Lockett averaged 22 yards per catch, turning 59 receptions into 1,299 yards and 13 touchdowns.

The 6-foot-1, 175-pounder is the No. 18 overall prospect in the 2025 class, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He ranks as the nation’s No. 3 wide receiver and the No. 6 recruit in the Lone Star State.

Lockett talks about top programs

At the On3 Elite Series event last month, Lockett broke down what stands out about the Seminoles, Tigers, Longhorns and Aggies with On3’s Steve Wiltfong. After that, he scheduled an official visit with the Crimson Tide and what made them jump into his top schools list.

LSU: “Just their ability to put wide receivers in the league. Coach Hank, great coach and great person, great human being. Coach Kelly is a great human being as well. They want people who aren’t going to do it for the money, who want to do it because they love the game of football. That’s what I like about it.”

Texas A&M: “Coach Wiggins, he’s also one of those guys who puts receivers in the league like Jerry JeudyHenry RuggsJameson Williams and Jaylen Waddle,” Lockett said. “When you get to talking about those receivers, those are some of the best receivers in college football history. He coached them. . . And DeVonta Smith, you can’t forget about Smith. That makes the decision even harder when you have guys like that recruiting you and could be coaching you.”

Florida State: “I feel like the whole dynamic changed with Coach Norvell got there. But it took some time for the players, the coaches and even the fans to buy into what he was trying to do with the program. Him being there, it forced the people to buy in and it forced them to think ‘Oh, we’re back to being what we’re used to being.’ I might want to be a part of that some day.”

Texas: “Coach Sarkisian and (wide receivers coach Chris) Jackson. What else can you say about coach Sarkisian and coach Jackson. One came from the NFL and one came from coaching with coach Saban and winning multiple championships, having multiple Heisman winners and NFL draft picks. You mix that with in with (running backs coach Tashard) Choice, (tight ends coach) Jeff Banks and also the defensive coaches — that’s a national championship team right there.”

Alabama: “Coach (Kalen) DeBoer’s air-raid offense at Washington and how he can translate it to Alabama. Along with me and Keelon Russell having a conversation about us potentially teaming up.”
