7-foot four-star center Shawn Phillips decommits from NC State
Shawn Phillips, the No. 100 overall prospect in the 2022 class, has received his release from NC State and will decommit from the program.
The big man committed to the Wolfpack last September before singing during the early period in November.
“I would first like to say thanks to Coach Keatts and the staff for recruiting me and giving me the opportunity to play at NC State. Thanks also to the fans and everyone who gave endless support throughout this time. But due to recent staff changes, I will be decommitting from NC State and re-opening my recruitment. Time to find a new home,” Phillips said in a statement to On3.
Phillips reopening his recruitment is in wake of the recent coaching staff changes that occurred last month. Head coach Kevin Keatts decided not to retain assistants Roy Roberson and more specifically, Mike Summey. Sumney was Phillips’ head recruiter while at NC State.

NC State has since hired former Wolfpack player Levi Watkins to fill one of the positions. For the past four seasons, Watkins has been an assistant at Ole Miss.
Here’s where it gets interesting.
During Watkins time in Oxford, he extended an offer to Phillips to play at Ole Miss. Not to mention, the Rebels ended up being one of his final three schools (along with West Virginia) before choosing NC State.
With that being said, Phillips hasn’t taken a known visit to Ole Miss, however, it would make a lot of sense if he decided to. The Rebels currently don’t have a center, besides incoming freshman and fellow four-star Malique Ewin. If I were an Ole Miss coach here, I’d make Phillips one of my first priorities.
