A full high school season and playoffs lead to a 2024 On3 150 rankings update
The 2024 On3 150 player rankings have been updated. This is the fifth update for this class, debuting a top 25 in April, expanding to 75 in June, broadening to a full 150 in October, and updating the 150 in January. This update is based on 1) in-person evaluations from the high school season and playoffs and 2) film study and intel on prospects throughout the high school season and now.
Since the last update in January, the On3 team has attended numerous national high school events, as well as high school playoff games, pre-season travel ball events, and USA Basketball minicamp. With multiple showcases taking place every week(end), On3 has also collected streams and film to comb through as we ensure the maximum exposure of countless events and players.
The ranking process is a continual and often fluid one. On3 starts ranking recruits after their freshman-year travel season, prior to the start of their sophomore high school seasons. That recruit can look a lot different for our final ranking after their senior year championships and all-star games are played.
We have spent the last several weeks working on this 2024 update, so it will reflect the most accurate and current representation of the recruiting cycle. This work has resulted in 11 players making their debuts in the 2024 On3 150. We have also continued collecting data on the previously ranked players, putting eyes throughout the 2024 On3 150 ranking process.
These players have now finished their junior years of high school. Our next 2024 On3 150 update will come mid-way through the travel ball season, after the April live period and Memorial Day events. There is still a lot of basketball to be played before this class cycle ends.
The goal of rankings at On3 is to assess a prospect’s long-term potential. As we continue forward, a player’s performance on the court and their continued growth will outweigh these early rankings. Again, every player’s arc is different, and each ranking is a snapshot in time.
Here are some storylines from the second update of a full 150 for the 2024 class.
Grading the 2024 On3 150
The basketball player rankings scale is as follows: Five-star prospects have grades 98-100, four-star recruits have grades 90-97, and 80-89 grades are for three stars.
The first 12 prospects are five stars with a rating of 98 or higher. The rankings for current cycles will be updated on a regular schedule throughout the year, with around 20 five stars by the final ranking of a cycle. Our goal is to assess a prospect’s long-term potential in college basketball, ultimately manifested by the NBA draft.
Tre Johnson holds serve at No. 1
While we had a bit of a discussion during the last update, the talk for No. 1 was quick during this refresh. Tre Johnson finished his high school season strong, culminating in a 29-point Texas 4A state championship win. Johnson, of Dallas (TX) Lake Highlands High, was named MVP.
While Johnson has feel, fluidity, confidence, all of the things you want, it is his ability to score the ball that puts him above his peers. The 6-foot-5 guard plays with great balance, and his footwork gets him to his spots in an efficient manner, wasting no time or energy.

Johnson can raise up and knock down the mid-range jumper or create space with the step-back three. He has the quick, shifty handle to get his defender off-balance in the halfcourt and then read his positioning for when to rise up. The buckets come in waves, yet things rarely feel forced.
Ace Bailey moves into the top five
Ace Bailey, a junior at Powder Springs (GA) McEachern High, jumps to No. 4 in the updated 2024 On3 150. Things were somewhat quiet with the five-star players for this update; there was very little movement. However, it should be worth noting that Bailey, a 6-foot-9 forward, moved up from No. 7 to No. 4, inside the top five.
Simply put, Bailey has too much upside, and his flashes are too loud to ignore. At 6-foot-9, he moves like a wing. There is some shooting touch there and some decisive handle within two and three dribbles. Things are still coming together for Bailey as he is beginning to string together his flashes into consistent production. When he locks in on defense, his twitch and reach give him a high upside on that end of the floor as well.
