A summer filled with high-level basketball leads to a 2024 On3 150 ranking update
The 2024 On3 150 player rankings have been updated. This is the seventh update for this class, debuting a top 25 in April of 2022, expanding to 75 in June, broadening to a full 150 in October, and updating the 150 in January, April, and June of 2023. This update is based on 1) in-person evaluations from June scholastic and elite camps and the July live periods and 2) film study and intel on prospects throughout the travel season.
Since the last update in June, the On3 team has attended numerous national high school events, including Pangos All-American Camp, June scholastic live periods, NBPA Top 100 Camp, Peach Jam, and Adidas 3SSB Championships. With multiple showcases and events taking place every week(end), On3 has also collected streams and combed through the film as we ensure the maximum exposure of countless events and players.
The ranking process is a continual and often fluid one. On3 starts ranking recruits after their freshman-year travel season, prior to the start of their sophomore high school seasons. That recruit can look a lot different for our final ranking after their senior year championships and all-star games are played.
We have spent the last several weeks working on this 2024 update so that it will reflect the most accurate and current representation of the recruiting cycle. This work has resulted in 12 players making their debuts in the 2024 On3 150. We have also continued collecting data on the previously ranked players, putting eyes throughout the 2024 On3 150 ranking process.
These players have now finished their travel seasons, leading into their senior years. Our next 2024 On3 150 update will come toward the start of the high school season. With a couple of updates left, there is still a lot of basketball to be played before this class cycle ends.
The goal of rankings at On3 is to assess a prospect’s long-term potential. As we continue forward, a player’s performance on the court and their continued growth will outweigh the earlier rankings. Again, every player’s arc is different, and each ranking is a snapshot in time.
Here are some storylines from On3’s third update of a full 150 for the 2024 class.
Grading the 2024 On3 150
The basketball player rankings scale is as follows: Five-star prospects have grades 98-100, four-star recruits have grades 90-97, and 80-89 grades are for three stars.
The first 14 prospects are five stars with a rating of 98 or higher. The players ranked No. 15 to 110 are classified as four-star prospects with grades from 90 to 97. The remainder of the 150 and position rankings are considered three-star prospects.
Our goal is to assess a prospect’s long-term potential, ultimately manifested by the NBA Draft. The goal of the ranking is not to assess who had the best high school career or who will be the best college player. This is why we will shoot to end each cycle with 14 five-star prospects following the lead of the NBA Draft Lottery. The vision is draft night.
Dylan Harper holds serve at No. 1
Dylan Harper took over the No. 1 spot in the 2024 On3 150 during On3’s previous June update. He overtook Tre Johnson, who held the position for the previous three updates. The conversation between Harper and Johnson was a recurring one that the On3 national team had for each update—ultimately making the move after the start Harper had during Nike’s EYBL Circuit.
In this update, the conversation at the top happened between Harper and Ace Bailey. Bailey is a 6-foot-9 forward from Powder Springs (GA) McEachern. He had good showings at the USA Basketball minicamp as well as an MVP showing at the recent Steph Curry Elite Camp. Bailey churned out highlights all summer with his independent-based AOT travel program. This is a conversation we expect to continue moving forward as we continue to check back and monitor the growth at the top of this class.
Harper continued his steady play through June and July. He played with USA Basketball in the FIBA World U19 Championships, where he led the national team in assists (3.0), finished fourth in rebounding (4.6), and finished fourth in scoring (9.3). Harper, a rising senior in high school, was the second youngest player on a team with rising freshmen and sophomores in college.
Harper then flew from Hungary to Augusta, Georgia, to play in Nike’s Peach Jam. He finished second in the event in scoring, at 21.1 points per game on 52.1 percent from the field. He also averaged 5.7 rebounds. 3.3 assists and 1.7 steals per game. His New York Renaissance team made it to the Final Four of Peach Jam.
When projecting toward the NBA Draft, Bailey has a lot of the natural tools you look for. He has the athleticism and positional size along with a developing skill set. While the flashes are impressive, consistency will be his next step. Harper is a big guard who has excellent court awareness and vision and has spent the last year producing at the highest level against his peers.

VJ Edgecome and Jayden Quaintance lead the way for new five stars
VJ Edgecombe is a 6-foot-4 shooting guard at Long Island (NY) Long Island Lutheran. He is coming off a high school season where he led the National Interscholastic Basketball Conference (NIBC) in scoring. His 15.5 points, 2.4 assists, and 2.1 steals led to him earning NIBC Player of the Year and the New York Gatorade Player of the Year.
This summer, with the Austin Rivers Elite program, on the Adidas 3SSB Circuit, Edgecombe averaged 14.8 points and 3.1 assists while shooting 37.7 percent from three. While he is explosive with good length, the efficiency Edgecombe plays with, both as a scorer and facilitator, is the intriguing piece. Nothing ever seems rushed or forced in his game.
Jayden Quaintance is a 6-foot-10 center at Raleigh (NC) Word of God. He played 18.7 minutes and averaged 6.7 points and 6.5 rebounds while starting all six games at the center position for the gold-medal-winning USA Basketball U16 team this summer. He is an explosive player with natural instincts and great length. While he is already producing at a high level, he is young and will graduate at 16, and his upside, combined with his current production, are hard to ignore.
Four players made their On3 debuts as five-star prospects in this update.
