The Atlantic Coast Conference is adjusting their Baseball Championship for 2025, moving on from the pool play format, according to Bradley Smart of D1Baseball.
Starting this season, the ACC will turn to a 16-team, single-elimination bracket. It’s the same structure as the new Southeastern Conference bracket, with the top four seeds earning a double bye, and the next four getting a single bye, per Smart.
“NEWS: The ACC Baseball Championship is moving from the pool play format to a 16-team, single-elimination bracket,” Smart posted on X, accompanying a photo of the bracket. “Same structure as new SEC bracket w/ top four seeds earning double bye, next four getting single bye.”
All told, it’s a pretty exciting change for the ACC. The new format should make the conference’s tournament even more exciting than it already is, as some of the best teams in college baseball will continue to do battle throughout May.
We’re inching closer and closer to the college baseball season, and anticipation is growing within the ACC and other conferences, as well. It remains to be seen who the best of the best will be, but teams like North Carolina, Florida State and Virginia project well at the moment for the conference.
