ACC announces annual protected matchups through 2030 season

Change can often be a good thing but it’s nice to know that some things will always stay the same. That’s why the newly protected matchups within the ACC were such an important part of the conference’s schedule release on Monday night.

The ACC shared their 16 protected matchups on the conference’s network to start the week. It includes 13 rivalries and matchups from the Atlantic Coast’s original members and three that contain the trio of new additions in Stanford, California, and SMU.

The ACC will maintain these 16 matchups through the first six years of their new scheduling model.

The schools out of North Carolina lead the way with the Tar Heels, Blue Devils, and Wolfpack having three apiece. Several of other teams are featured at least twice on the list.

The 2024 schedule was originally meant to be a 3-3-5 format with the loss of divisions. However, with the additions of the Cardinals, Golden Bears, and Mustangs, the ACC had to start from scratch on their slate for next fall.

Again, the ACC, like several conferences, is going to see some big changes next fall. Even so, at least these 16 matchups will continue on into the future of the conference.

ACC announces 2024 schedule following conference realignment

Just one year after changing up the scheduling model, the ACC has once again rolled out a new format for football.

A good mix of old-school matchups with some new-look opponents is there for a few members. For now, here is the 2024 schedule for the new-look ACC.
