The On3 Massey Ratings – which were officially used during the BCS era and have generated high school sports team rankings since 1995 – rank sports teams by analyzing game outcomes, strength of schedule, and margin of victory.

1. Miami

The Miami Hurricanes remained at the top of the ACC rankings per the Massey Ratings. A dominant win over USF and well, no reason to move the ‘Canes.

Cam Ward continued this Heisman campaign with 400 yards and three touchdowns. ‘Nuff said, right? This is still the top team in the conference.

2. Louisville (+1)

The Cardinals improved to 3-0 on the season with a 31-19 win over Georgia Tech at home. It was a back and forth affair but Louisville outscored the Yellow Jackets 14-5 in the second half.

Tyler Shough had a great performance for this top ranked ACC squad. He had 269 yards and two touchdowns through the air.

3. Clemson (-1)

Clemson vaulted back up the ACC last week and now they move down per the Massey Ratings. Still, it doesn’t take away from the 59-35 win over NC State.

The Tigers were in complete control with a 28-0 lead after the first quarter. Cade Klubnik threw for 209 yards and fired three touchdowns. Phil Mafah ran for 107 yards and a score.

4. Pittsburgh (+1)

Yikes, look away Youngstown State fans. Pitt dominated with a 73-17 win. 90 total points! It was quick work for the Panthers though.

They moved up one spot in the ACC after this performance, which included a 42-10 lead at halftime. Eli Holstein threw for 247 yards and three touchdowns while Daniel Carter ran for 109 yards and two touchdowns.

5. Duke (+2)

The Blue Devils improved to 4-0 and it’s been quite a start under Manny Diaz. Maalik Murphy put up some good numbers again: 216 yards, three touchdowns and one interception.

In the 45-17 win over Middle Tennessee State, Duke built a 28-10 lead after the first quarter and never looked back. Next up is rival North Carolina at home, a classic ACC matchup.

6. California (-2)

This was a tough one for Cal to swallow. The Golden Bears went to Florida State trying to remain undefeated and keep the Seminoles winless. That did not happen.

In the 14-9 loss, Cal actually had a 9-7 lead going into the fourth quarter. It just wasn’t enough and they went back west very disappointed.

7. Boston College (+1)

After narrowly losing to Missouri, Boston College played another non-ACC affair and beat Michigan State, giving the Spartans their first loss of the year. The Eagles improved to 3-1 with the win.

Thomas Castellanos was 10-of-16 for 140 yards and a touchdown. Treshaun Ward was great on the ground, running 14 times for 102 yards and a score. BC also erased a 13-6 halftime deficit.

8. SMU (+4)

SMU fans must be feeling themselves right now, despite being a new ACC team. We know the 66-42 win over TCU wasn’t a conference game, but it meant a lot.

The Mustangs beat former coach Sonny Dykes, who wasn’t even on the field the entire time after his ejection. Once SMU built that 17-0 lead in the first quarter, they didn’t look back to improve to 3-1.

9. Georgia Tech

As we mentioned earlier, Georgia Tech dropped its second game of the year, another in ACC play. Now 3-2, GT is going to have to regroup.

Haynes King aired it out, throwing for 312 yards but no scores. However, he ran for 58 yards and a touchdown. But leading the team in both categories? Maybe not a good sign.

10. Virginia (+4)

The Cavaliers improved to 3-1 on the season and moved up into the top 10 of the ACC rankings, per Massey. The 43-24 win over Coastal Carolina was full of consistency.

Anthony Colandrea threw for 131 yards and two touchdowns but it was the run game that was dominant. Xavier Brown ran nine times for 171 yards and Kobe Pace added 57 yards and a score.
