For the first time since the 2014 season, the Clemson Tigers were not in the ACC Championship game. Representing the Atlantic for five consecutive seasons before the pandemic, Dabo Swinney’s team finished third in the division. Wake Forest claimed the division championship this season, thanks to a head-to-head win over North Carolina State. Overall, no team in the Atlantic finished with an overall record below .500.

As for the Coastal, no division in college football has been more chaotic. Over a seven-year period, all seven teams appeared in the ACC championship game but all fell short. Pittsburgh was the representative this season, behind the play of Heisman Trophy finalist, quarterback Kenny Pickett. Miami was the only other Coastal team to finish with a winning record. Duke and Georgia Tech round out the division at 3-9.

Pittsburgh and Wake Forest battled it out in Charlotte, with a spot in a New Year’s Six Bowl game on the line. After 21 first-quarter points, the Demon Deacons were shut out. It was all Panthers from there, with Pickett’s fake slide being the highlight play of the game. It marked Pitt’s first ACC championship ever and the program’s first conference championship since the 2010 Big East title.

Now, it’s time to focus on the 2022 season within the ACC. The conference released the full schedule on Monday night. Check it out here.
