Wichita State guard Ricky Council IV, who was named AAC Sixth Man of the Year, is nearing revealing his transfer destination. The sophomore, who also earned AAC All-Freshman honors in 2020-21 for his production off the bench, entered the transfer portal earlier this month.

Stay up to date on the latest news with On3’s Transfer Portal Wire.

As you can see, Council has narrowed his choices down to six programs — Alabama, Georgia Tech, Arkansas, Mississippi State, Kansas and Iowa State.

In two seasons at Wichita State before entering the transfer portal, Ricky Council IV played in 49 games. He averaged 12.0 points and 5.4 rebounds in 2021-22, nearly doubling his production across the board as his minutes increased.

He arrived with the Shockers as an unranked recruit in the class of 2020, but quickly emerged as an impact player. The Durham, North Carolina native stands at 6-foot-4 and also averaged better than one steal per game last season on defense.

According to Jamie Shaw — On3’s National Basketball Recruiting Analyst — Council is the No. 1 available shooting guard in the transfer portal at the moment. You can check out his full rankings for all the shooting guards in the transfer portal here.

“Shocker Nation, I would like to thank you for all the support I have receiver over the last two years,” wrote Council. “It means a lot to have fans like you throughout the year.

“To my coaches and teammates, it’s been a pleasure to be with y’all, win a championship and create many memories in my time here. This has been a very tough decision that I’ve been thinking through for weeks, but after long conversations with my family and my supporting cast back home, I’ve decided to enter the transfer portal while also pursuing the draft.

“I want to find the best situation for me. If that’s going pro, at another university or returning to Wichita State. Thank you Shocker Nation.”

Evidently, Ricky Council IV has figured out his best options. Time will tell what program he decides to take his talents to.
