AD Mitchell reacts surprisingly on rooting interest in Georgia-Texas SEC Championship
Saturday’s SEC Championship between Georgia and Texas is a crossover episode for AD Mitchell. The current Indianapolis Colts wide receiver played for both teams during his college days. Now, they are battling in Atlanta and you would think Mitchell would have to take a side.
Turns out, the answer is no. Mitchell is cheering for the offenses to find success, calling himself a “neutral.” Fitting for a wide receiver wanting to see a high-scoring game and potentially some former teammates making big plays.
“I’m rooting for the offense today,” Mitchell said via X. “#neutral #justafanofgoodball“
Mitchell spent two seasons at Georgia and got to play in two SEC Championship games. One pass for eight yards was caught against Alabama in 2021, a game the Bulldogs lost. The following season was a win for UGA vs. LSU but Mitchell did not make an impact as no receptions popped up on the stat sheet.
Transferring to Texas for his final season of college football, Mitchell did not get to wear an SEC patch with the Longhorns. It was the program’s final season in the Big 12 and wound up being quite successful. Mitchell had a monster afternoon against Oklahoma State in the Big 12 title game, going for 109 yards and a touchdown on six catches.

Going one step further, the College Football Playoff is really where Mitchell made his presence known. Five CFP games saw Mitchell caught five touchdown passes — one in each. In total, 12 catches for 181 yards and five scores.
Unfortunately for Mitchell, one of Georgia or Texas will have to win this game. Winner will receive one of the top-four seeds and receive a bye in the Playoff. Loser likely gets to host a game but as an at-large participant.
But first priority is attempting to get a win in the SEC Championship. Texas is hoping to do so in its first year as members of the conference, while Georgia is looking for No. 3 under head coach Kirby Smart.
