Adam Schefter, Doug Gottlieb trade savage social media blows over Michael Vick report
ESPN’s Adam Schefter fired back after Wisconsin-Green Bay men’s basketball coach and FOX Sports radio host Doug Gottlieb questioned his reporting Monday.
Gottlieb quoted post on X, formerly Twitter, where Schefter reported earlier in the day that Michael Vick was in discussions to become the next head coach at Sacramento State. In that post, Schefter also made note of the fact that the school has raised more than $50 million in NIL funds to build the program up.
Gottlieb doubted the truth to that number in his response.
“Jeezus Shefty, edit what agents tell you…” he wrote. “0.0% chance Sac State has $50m in NIL.”
Schefter simply couldn’t let that slip by, as he wrote a response pointing out that SAC-12 executive committee, created to secure an invite to the Pac-12 Conference, surpassed its goal of $50 million in October.
The ESPN insider didn’t stop there, however, as he took a shot at Gottlieb for the coaching job he has done in his first season at UW-Green Bay.

“Jeezus, Doug. A seven-game losing steak and last place in the Horizon League?” he wrote. “Less time on social media and more time in the gym.”
The Phoenix’s only two wins this season have come against Western Illinois and SIU-Edwardsville as they currently sit at 2-10 on the year. He took over a team that went 18-14 the year prior.
Regardless, it’s clear that Gottlieb didn’t do his research on the efforts that Sacramento State is making to move up build its athletics programs up. The Hornets are making a push to enter the FBS and hope that their $50 million raised will be enough to grab the attention of the Pac-12.
Gottlieb will look to shake off the recent slump and get his team playing solid basketball with plenty of games still left to go in conference play. UW-Green Bay will next face Michigan Tech at noon ET on Wednesday.
