Two games into the Deion Sanders era at Colorado, the Buffaloes already have more wins than they had all of last season under the previous Colorado coaching staff.

In beating Nebraska 36-14 on Saturday, Sanders and the Buffaloes improved to 2-0 and also secured Colorado’s biggest win over the rival Cornhuskers since a 26-point victory in 2001. If not a late garbage time touchdown, it would have been the Buffaloes’ largest-ever win in their 72 game history against Nebraska.

Here are some other notes and stats coming out of the latest victory for Sanders and Colorado:

— Colorado is already halfway to matching its win total against Power Five opponents from the last two seasons combined. The Buffaloes won just four total games against P5 opponents in 2021 and ’22. CU was 5-19 the last two years, including 4-17 against Power Five opponents.

— The 22-point win over Nebraska is tied for Colorado’s second-largest margin of victory over a Power Five opponent since 2016. The only bigger margin of victory was a 34-0 win over Arizona in 2021. The other 22-point victory was a 38-16 win over UCLA in 2018.

— Quarterback Shedeur Sanders, who finished 31 of 42 for 393 yards with three total touchdowns (two passing, one rushing) and no interceptions against Nebraska, is the first Buffaloes quarterback since Joel Klatt in 2003 with two 375+ yard passing games in a single season. It’s taken just two games for him to accomplish that. Sanders was 17 of 21 with 261 passing yards, a passing TD and a touchdown run during the second half versus the Cornhuskers. Through two games as Colorado’s quarterback, Sanders has thrown for 903 yards with seven total touchdowns (six passing, one rushing) and no turnovers).

— In the last three seasons as the head coach at Jackson State and now Colorado, Deion Sanders now has an overall record of 25-3.

Next up for Sanders and Colorado is a matchup against Colorado State next week. Then comes games against two of the top teams in the Pac-12. The Buffaloes play at No. 13 Oregon Sept. 23. They then host Lincoln Riley, Caleb Williams and No. 6 USC Sept. 30.

In the win over Nebraska, Colorado led 13-0 at halftime and then scored 23 straight points after a Nebraska touchdown early in the third quarter. The Buffaloes led 36-7 until that late Cornhuskers score.
