Former Alabama and Texas wide receiver Agiye Hall pled no-contest to a drug trafficking charge in June, AL.com’s Matt Stahl reported. He received 18 months probation and his trial was canceled as a result.

Hall was flying from San Francisco back to Florida in July 2023 when police detained him at the Orlando airport. They found approx. 40.3 pounds of marijuana across 31 vacuum-sealed bags, a court affidavit obtained by AL.com showed. He was arrested on Dec. 4, and he pled no-contest in June. A trial was set for Monday, but was canceled after the court withheld adjudication.

The maximum sentence for the charge was three years at minimum and a 30-year maximum sentence. His bond was originally $500, but Hall’s attorneys filed a motion to reduce the amount and cited mental health as a factor, including official diagnoses of generalized anxiety disorder and obsessive-compulsive disorder. The judge accepted.

“An objective review of Mr. Hall’s background, family situation, mental health struggles, and age, suggests Mr. Hall was likely in a perceived financial strain and viewed purchasing cannabis in California and reselling it in Florida as a innocuous, yet quick way, to make money to help his family and himself during what is obviously a stressful situation,” said Hall’s attorney Richard Hornsby in the motion, via AL.com.

The news comes after a report from Stephen Leonard said Hall didn’t report to UCF this week. He was planning to walk on with the Knights after entering the transfer portal, but did not end up joining the program, the report said.

More on Agiye Hall’s college career

Hall started his college career at Alabama, where he had four receptions for 72 yards as a freshman. He then transferred to Texas last season after an arrest shortly after he arrived on campus resulted in an indefinite suspension.

Hall was arrested for criminal mischief which was caused by damages to a parking boot. Texas then suspended him indefinitely, but Longhorns coach Steve Sarkisian. Hall then appeared in three games before again entering the portal.

The expectation was Hall would walk on at UCF after his second time entering the transfer portal. As part of his sentencing for the drug trafficking charge, he will continue to get a college education, AL.com reported.

Agiye Hall was a four-star recruit out of Valrico (Fla.) Bloomingdale and the No. 37 overall prospect from the 2021 class, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.
