Aidan Chiles on proving himself in Michigan State opener: 'If you bet, take the over'
Michigan State QB Aidan Chiles is all-in on himself entering his first season starting in college football.
A reporter asked Chiles about setting the tone for himself and their season in their opener next week during a session on Thursday. In his answer, he shared the belief in what’s to come for him by replying with an interesting line with some gambling advice to any bettors out there looking at his lines and odds.
“Like I said before, if you bet, take the over,” said Chiles to the media.
That’s quite the statement from the Spartans’ quarterback. For one, it’s a lot of confidence as he enters just his sophomore season after appearing in nine games at his first school last season. For two, sports betting can be a touchier subject at the collegiate level lately, especially when it involves current players.
Still, those in East Lansing have to love to hear that from Chiles coming into kickoff in 2024.
As for his actual statistics so far, Chiles went 24-35 (68.6%) for four touchdowns and no interceptions as a freshman at Oregon State. He also had a trio of scores on the ground for the Beavers to give him seven total on the year. He was just the backup in Corvallis, though, behind DJ Uiagalelei.

With Jonathan Smith leaving for Michigan State this offseason. Chiles came with him. He entered into and later committed to him again out of the transfer portal in December. He did so as the No. 7 QB and No. 29 overall player per On3’s 2024 Transfer Portal Top Players.
It’s up to you to decide if you’re buying what Chiles’ is selling about the numbers for his upcoming season. Either way, though, it’s now going to be that much more worth watching what he does in their first game next versus FAU.
Smith on Chiles: ‘The game kind of comes natural to him’
Jonathan Smith knows what he has in Aidan Chiles.
“It just jumps out to me. He’s talented but he’s instinctive. The game kind of comes natural to him,” Smith said at Big Ten Media Days at Sirius XM. “So we were feeling that way early in fall camp…he was gonna be the backup. You didn’t love the idea that he had no experience being the backup (and being) one play away (from getting in) and so we just got into this rhythm of playing him in the third series and he had a lot of success. It was meaningful time.”
“Yeah, you could still open it up a little bit, play in the shotgun. He’s more than capable to do some other stuff,” Smith said. “So, anyway, what we saw through that season with Aidan? We continue to feel confident to put them in the game.”
