AJ Swinton, a four-star small forward in the 2024 class, will announce his college decision on February 24th at 3:00 pm ET.

The 6-foot-5 junior recently made the move from Oak Hill Academy (Va.) to Sierra Canyon (Calif.).

Swinton has taken one official visit to Virginia Tech but has taken unofficial visits to Ohio State and Xavier. A native of the DMV area, Swinton also holds offers from Georgetown, Maryland, George Mason, and others.

Swinton talks schools

In a previous interview with On3, Swinton discussed a handful of the schools involved in his recruitment.

Virginia Tech: “They were one of my first offers. It’s like family there. You know Coach (Mike) Jones, he was my old coach at Dematha, but also Coach (Kevin) Giltner and Coach (Mike) Young. They basically run the same sets we run at Oak Hill, but there are different reads. The way they play in transition if you can get it up and out fast, that is how they like to play. They also take a lot of pride on defense, like me. They could be a good fit.”

Ohio State: “The campus there is amazing. It’s a football school, and they got 60,000 kids who go there. The NIL opportunities would be out there. The way they play, we call it point-five; if you don’t pass or shoot it in that time, you got to get off of it. I like the way they play.”

Swinton Scouting Summary

AJ Swinton Scouting Summary from On3’s Jamie Shaw.

“Swinton is a sturdy and lengthy wing. He has played predominantly in the paint at a younger age and is expanding out to the perimeter. The early returns on the jump shot are positive; he has a smooth form with a repeatable release. Swinton is also good in straight lines; he will need to continue working on counter moves off the bounce. He has a good burst at the rim, and there is upside as a switchable defender and good rebounder for his size. With the success of tweener forwards who can shoot and switch in the college game, there is clarity for his player archetype.”
