Alabama announces plans for official dedication of Saban Field at Bryant-Denny Stadium on Saturday
The Alabama Crimson Tide have announced plans for the official dedication on Saban Field at Bryant-Denny Stadium on Saturday’s game against USF. The new name for the field will honor Nick Saban who led the football program from 2007 through 2023.
In July, the Honorary Degrees and Recognition Committee of the University of Alabama System Board of Trustees unanimously passed a resolution to name the field after Saban. Now, the Board of Trustees is set to formally adopt the resolution and present it to Saban.
While at Alabama, Saban was one of the greatest coaches in college football history. He had a 201-29 record during his time there and managed to win six national championships across both the BCS and College Football Playoff eras.
The ceremony is currently scheduled for about 2:30 p.m. C.T. or 3:30 p.m. ET on Saturday, September 7th. That’s the second home game of the season for the Alabama Crimson Tide before they take on the USF Bulls.

That ceremony is also set to take place at the head of the Walk of Champions on University Blvd. There, signage for the stadium is going to be unveiled. There will also be speeches shared by President Dr. Stuart R. Bell, Director of Athletics Greg Byrne, and Nick Saban at the ceremony. The Sabans will then proceed to complete the Walk of Champions and make their way to Saban Field at Bryant-Denny Stadium.

Nick Saban joins Paul “Bear” Bryant, another legendary head coach, and George H. Denny, the school’s president from 1912 to 1932, in being a part of the legacy that the field and stadium name honors.
Since retiring following the 2023 season, Nick Saban has gone on to become an analyst for ESPN and appears on College GameDay. This week, the show is set to take place live from Michigan in the morning.
