A verbal argument over the Saturday night game between Alabama and Texas A&M game led to a deadly shooting in Bessemer, Alabama.

In the final minutes of the game, Bessemer police were called when two men got into a dispute over the contest. The disagreement was over who the better team was. The two men were watching the game at another homeowner’s house and were asked to leave.

Outside of the home, shots were fired and one of the men, 27-year-old Kealand Amad Pickens, was struck. He was taken to UAB Hospital where he was pronounced dead at 3:23 a.m. Sunday morning.

The shooting was over before Texas A&M scored the game-winning field goal to beat the Crimson Tide.

The suspect fled before police arrived, but Bessemer police Lt. Christian Clemons said they know his identity.

“It’s another case of resorting to violence to handle differences,” Clemons told AL.com.

The win knocked off No. 1 Alabama, marking the first time a former Nick Saban assistant has ever won against him. It also marked the first time since 2007 that the Crimson Tide have lost to an unranked team.

Alabama faces criticism following loss at Texas A&M

Paul Finebaum was one of many taken back by the performance of the Alabama Crimson Tide on Saturday night.

The usually staunch Alabama defense is what Finebaum believes the culprit was. While Aggies quarterback Zach Calzada had a great game, Finebaum ripped the Crimson Tide’s defensive performance following the game.

“I was concerned by the fact that Alabama was dominated on both lines of scrimmage,” Finebaum said on ESPN’s SportsCenter. “I haven’t seen that very often in Nick Saban’s tenure.

“And not only that, it was a complete lack of composure, and I saw some some inexplicable coaching decisions as well.  Offensively, passing three-straight times in the red zone, and the defensive coordinator, I don’t know what his buyout is, but he better look at it this morning because the defensive performance for Alabama was disgraceful.”
