Former NFL head coach Ken Whisenhunt is expected to join the Alabama staff in an off-field role, sources tell On3.

Whisenhunt, who has been a head coach of the Arizona Cardinals and Tennessee Titans, was an analyst at Penn State the last two seasons.

Whisenhunt, who has a longstanding relationship with Crimson Tide head coach Nick Saban, is also the father-in-law of former LSU quarterback and current Alabama analyst Zach Mettenberger.

Whisenhunt, 60, last worked in the NFL in 2019 as the offensive coordinator of the Los Angeles Chargers. He previously compiled a 45-51 overall record as head coach of the Cardinals from 2007 to 2012, leading Arizona to two playoff appearances, before a one year stint as the offensive coordinator for the Chargers that was followed by a 3-20 mark in two seasons as the head coach of the Titans.
