After a few days of anticipation, the moment has finally arrived in Tuscaloosa. No. 1 Auburn is in Coleman Coliseum to play No. 2 Alabama, the most built-up game in this rivalry’s history. Students were camping out for hours and now are inside the building for the showdown.

The dislike between Alabama and Auburn is deep, no matter the sport. Crimson Tide fans made that well-known just ahead of tip-off. All around Coleman Coliseum, the words “F**k you Auburn” rained down.

You can check out the full moment here.

Auburn has silenced the crowd some early on, enjoying some shotmaking from Miles Kelly and Johni Broome. These types of moments are ones that can fire up a team, especially Auburn. They are not afraid to play with some emotion and into the crowd’s reaction.

Either way, a fun one should unfold over the next 35-ish minutes in Tuscaloosa. A lot more than the usual bragging rights are at stake as Alabama and Auburn are two of the best teams in college basketball. Someone will wind up on top of the world while the other has to experience the heartbreak of losing a big-time rivalry game.

Bruce Pearls speaks to respect he has for Alabama HC Nate Oats

Auburn basketball coach Bruce Pearl has a lot of respect for Nate Oats and Alabama, but the two teams are still big time rivals.

That’ll be most evident Saturday as the No. 1 Tigers take on the No. 2 Crimson Tide. Pearl and Oats have a lot of respect for one another, so it’s not personal.

But it might as well be war from the top two teams in the country when they meet on the hardwood.

“Well, I think it’s respect, you know,” Pearl said on Sirius XM. “I think that, you know, I respect the job he does. He’s one of the best coaches in the league. They do a phenomenal job in recruiting and evaluating talent. Their teams get better throughout the year. I think that’s what it looks like to me. I think Alabama, they were picked one by almost everybody. They are the deepest, the most talented team in our league, and they’re playing great right now.

“So no, I just think it’s a matter of respect. I want to beat Alabama more than anybody else on our schedule because that’s my rival. I want to beat Alabama that anybody else on my schedule, because that’s my rival. I don’t take it personally.”
