Going into a game against the Georgia Bulldogs and coming off a bye week, the Alabama Crimson Tide were looking to get as healthy as possible and head coach Kalen DeBoer has recently shared an injury update for the team.

Kalen DeBoer started by sharing that Malachi Moore has been practicing. That comes as the star defensive back has been working through protocol after suffering an apparent head injury in the team’s win over Wisconsin.

“I would expect Malachi — that was just a matter of time working through his situation,” Kalen DeBoer said. “He’s out there practicing already at the end of last week.”

Malachi Moore has been a key member of the Alabama defense during his time in Tuscaloosa. This season has been no exception. The fifth-year senior has 16 combined tackles, including a tackle for loss, and two pass breakups this in just three games.

Another key player for Alabama moving forward looks to be linebacker Qua Russaw. For his part, he got knocked out of the Wisconsin game with an apparent leg injury.

“With Qua, still taking the steps, still working through his situation,” DeBoer said. “I’m optimistic. I’m optimistic with Qua. We just have to see as we evaluate throughout the week what that looks like with him.”

Redshirt freshman wide receiver Cole Adams and redshirt freshman running back Richard Young have also been dealing with injuries of their own. Similarly, Kalen DeBoer shared that neither is at 100 percent yet and they want to avoid any setbacks.

“Cole practiced here, not 100 percent of practice, but he’s out there competing and doing some things with the activities that we have and even some competitive drills. So, we’re just working him back slowly,” DeBoer said.

“And then Richard is the same case. So, he’s been out there, in uniform, going through the drills and working back slowly with the bye week. You never want to not push, but we also have to be sure we’re doing things smart with these guys and not setting themselves up for any setbacks. So, both those guys are kind of in the same boat too.”

The game against Georgia is going to be a major test for DeBoer. Alabama beat Georgia just last season in the SEC Championship Game. However, that was under Nick Saban and this will be the first game that DeBoer ever coaches against a fellow SEC team.
