Alpharetta (Ga.) Denmark offensive lineman Dayne Shor grew up an Auburn fan. He has family close to the Auburn campus, his grandfather and multiple members of the family on his father’s side went to school there, and the school on the Plains was the school he grew up dreaming about.

He has decided to play for the other part of the Iron Bowl — Alabama.

The 6-foot-6, 295 pound tackle ended up committed to the Crimson Tide over Texas A&M.

It Started Early

“My offers started coming in during my sophomore year,” said Shor. “Georgia Tech offered first. Then it was Tennessee. Arizona State and TCU were next, then things took off from there.

“Alabama offered me in the spring of my sophomore year. I talked to coach Flood (now at Texas) for the first time and that is when Alabama offered me. Alabama wasn’t really showing me attention before that, so that is when it really started recruiting me.

“I knew right when they offered that they would be a big factor for me. I didn’t know right away that I would end up committing to them, but I knew Alabama was a great school and that it would definitely be one on my list.”

The Tide Shifted

“I thought about a year or so ago that I would be committing to Auburn,” said Shor. “Alabama made some coaching changes early in 2021 and that is when Alabama started to really make their move with me. Coach Marrone was hired to be the new offensive line coach and we clicked right away.

“Me and coach Marrone hit it off right off the bat and we have a strong connection. Those first few weeks after he got the job at Alabama, we talked a lot and things really started to change with me and Alabama.

“Around April is really when I started to think Alabama could be the school for me. I knew around that time it was going to be high on my list. I was doing zoom calls with Alabama every week. I met with coach Marrone, coach Nick Saban, the academic staff, and I really started to fall in love with Alabama.

“I went to the spring game and I left with a different feeling about Alabama.”

Alabama Closed It Out

“When things opened up June 1, I went back to Alabama for a private workout with coach Marrone and I left feeling I would commit to Alabama,” said Shor. “A couple of days after that camp experience is when I made my decision.

“I worked with coach Marrone on the field, we watched film, I spent time on campus and I knew my mind was made up.

“I called Alabama a few days after I finished the camp and told them about my decision. I talked to coach Marrone, then coach Saban and we all were excited.

“I shared my commitment with them and I am confident about my decision. The Alabama coaches are excited to have me as part of the program. It is an elite program and being a part of it is something I am very excited about.”
