Alabama offensive lineman Miles McVay plans to enter NCAA Transfer Portal
Alabama Crimson Tide offensive lineman Miles McVay plans to enter the NCAA Transfer Portal, On3 has learned.
Miles McVay played high school football at East Saint Louis (IL), where he was a four-star prospect. He was the No. 176 overall recruit in the 2023 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.
McVay came to Alabama with a ton of potential, but he’s now decided to move on and take his talents elsewhere. As a recruit, he drew interest from a number of big-name schools, such as Oregon, Michigan State and Texas A&M.

The On3 Transfer Portal Instagram account and Twitter account are excellent resources to stay up to date with the latest moves.
The transfer portal officially opens on Monday, Dec. 9, 2024. More than 2,800 FBS scholarship players entered their names into the NCAA’s transfer database during the 2023-24 school year. Removing those who withdrew or went pro, the final total sat at 2,707 transfers. That means roughly 25% of all FBS scholarship players hit free agency in one year.

More on Miles McVay, Alabama Crimson Tide
Coaching in the SEC is a challenge for even the most hardened veterans. During an appearance on The Pat McAfee Show on Tuesday, Alabama head coach Kalen DeBoer reflected on his first season leading the Crimson Tide and competing in the SEC.
“It’s a challenge that I was excited about,” DeBoer said. “There’s always new things that you deal with. I don’t care what part of the country, what league — it doesn’t matter. But the SEC, it’s a grind every single week. That’s what you sign up for when you come here, and that’s what I tell our guys.
“You embrace the challenge, you embrace the competition and everything that comes with it. I think that’s part of what prepares you for a postseason, especially a postseason run that includes, now, up to four games for teams.”
