Pete Nakos On How Alabama Can Rebuild Roster In Spring Time After Losing Nick Saban Continuity | 01.21.24

Alabama quarterback Jalen Milroe grew up in Texas and followed the Longhorns program, before signing to play for the Crimson Tide.

Milroe attended Tompkins High School in Katy, Texas, where he led his team to a 9-0 record as a senior in 2020. He has continued to follow the Texas program from afar during his college career.

Milroe joined the ESPN broadcast during Wednesday night’s Alabama vs. Auburn basketball game and shared his thoughts on the Texas program and head coach Steve Sarkisian.

“To speak about that program, they have a great program,” Jalen Milroe said. “Coach Sark’s doing a really good job with that group. And you know, being from Texas, that is definitely a school that I grew up watching.”

Milroe considered going to play for the Longhorns out of high school, before signing with Alabama. That has worked out well for everyone as Texas and Alabama were both in this past year’s College Football Playoff.

Texas did beat Alabama during the regular season in 2023, but both teams still made the playoff.

“For me, you know … (God) has a plan for everything. Part of my plan wasn’t to go to Texas, (it was to) be here at Alabama,” Milroe said. “And so, the biggest the biggest thing is I, you know, maximize the opportunity I have here and seize it. But Texas definitely has a great program and they’re gonna do a lot of good things.”

Jalen Milroe looks ahead to Alabama’s 2024 season

In addition to Jalen Milroe sharing his thoughts on the Texas program, he also looked ahead to Alabama’s 2024 season.

The 2023 season saw Alabama get back to the top of the SEC and make the College Football Playoff. It also ended up being the last for head coach Nick Saban, who ended up retiring. Amid all of that, quarterback Jalen Milroe is excited for the 2024 season.

During the Alabama-Auburn basketball game on Wednesday, Milroe broke down his goals for the 2024 season and what he wants from the year.

“I’m coming back for my senior year,” Jalen Milroe said. “The biggest thing right now is set short term goals and long term goals. And the biggest thing about it, is all of it is able to be achievable. You know, with everything, you gotta embrace it and also surround yourself with a great supporting cast. I have a great supporting cast that’s going to uplift me and put me into the position to be successful.”

Within the Alabama program, Kalen DeBoer has replaced Nick Saban. Already, Jalen Milroe is doing his best to get to know his new coach.

“I’m big on relationships and you know, something I try to do is just really get to know my new head coach, and he’s done a really good job with the squad,” Milroe said. “He brings a good energy within the building. I’m just happy to have him here.”
