Alabama re-takes lead against Georgia with Ryan Williams touchdown
Alabama has somehow found itself on the ropes in Tuscaloosa despite being up 28-0 nothing at one point. Georgia had just completed an incredible comeback and taken a 34-33 lead thanks to some brilliance from Carson Beck. A huge drive was upcoming for Jalen Milroe and the Crimson Tide offense, cashing in on one play.
Milroe found the youngest player on the field, Ryan Williams, in a one-on-one ball down the sideline. Williams not only made the catch after adjusting his body in the air but turned around the Georgia defender. Once regrouping, a spin move had two Bulldogs crashing into each other.
From there, it was a straight foot race and one Williams one. He even had time to take his mouthguard out before celebrating in front of the fans at Bryant-Denny Stadium. An incredible play for any wide receiver, let alone one who’s 17 years old and should still be in high school.
You can check out the entire play from Williams here, giving Alabama the lead with 2:18 remaining in the game. The call from ESPN’s play-by-play announcer Chris Fowler explains nearly everybody’s emotion, ending it with “Are you kidding me?”
Williams played high school football at Saraland (AL) High School, where he was a Five-Star Plus+ prospect. He was the No. 5 overall recruit in the 2024 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.

As you have probably heard by now, Williams is just 17 years old and should still be playing high school football. He reclassified from the 2025 class and joined Alabama early. Kalen DeBoer was able to regain the wide receiver’s commitment after opening things back up following Nick Saban‘s retirement — the first big win on the trail for the head coach.
DeBoer has to be quite happy with pulling that one off at the moment. In what has been a tough second half for Alabama, Williams provides some magic and gives them the lead back. Not what you would expect from a true freshman in his fourth-ever college football game.
The job is far from over for the Crimson Tide, even with the special play from Williams. Folks in Tuscaloosa will remember it for a long time they can make one more defensive stop and come out with a victory. Following the score, Georgia is set to get the ball back with over two minutes remaining.
