Alabama’s 2024 season didn’t live up to the program’s recent standards, but the Tide’s recruiting had no such issues.

Kalen DeBoer and Co. signed yet another top-five recruiting class, and IMG Academy (Fla.) interior offensive lineman Michael Carroll was a large — both literally and figuratively — part of that. On Thursday, Carroll was ranked as the nation’s No. 11 overall recruit and a five-star prospect in On3’s final update to the 2025 On300 rankings.

He is one of a handful of five-stars in the class for Alabama’s staff, and even though they had to fight hard at the end to keep him, Carroll locked in his decision last month.

“I was pretty solid throughout,” he said to BamaOnLine of his commitment. “Just had to make sure I was making the right decision for me and my family. I came to the conclusion that I’m trying to get developed and be an NFL football player. Just after looking at everything, I thought the development, the strength, and the facilities at Alabama with the coaches is a much better situation for me.”

The 6-foot-6, 315-pounder is a native of Pennsylvania, but chose to play his senior season at IMG for an increase in competition. Now he’ll get another similar bump when he heads to Tuscaloosa to compete for a spot on the Tide’s revamped offensive line.

Scout’s Take on Michael Carroll

On3’s Scouting and Rankings team compares him to former Alabama lineman Landon Dickerson and write this about him as a prospect:

“Large-framed offensive line prospect with dynamic run blocking ability and a physical edge to his game. Measured in at 6-foot-6, 315 pounds with 33-inch arms and massive 11-inch hands prior to his senior season. Emerged as the top interior offensive line prospect in the cycle as a junior and cemented that status as a senior. Has added good size and has a well-proportioned build. Lines up as an offensive guard and defensive lineman for his original high school, prior to transferring to IMG Academy as a senior. A high level functional mover. Highly dangerous as a puller when working to the second level. Blows up linebackers on contact. Uses his large hands and grip strength to manipulate defenders at the point of attack. Plays with a level of nastiness and seeks out contact. Works to finish blocks. Has a strong base, allowing for the ability to anchor in pass pro. Flashes his athleticism and plays with a high effort level on defense, tracking plays down from the back side.”
