Most fans don’t know the name of their favorite team’s manager. However, as he’s rocketed to some level of acclaim online, many now know the name of McNeese State Cowboys team manager Amir Khan. However, that kind of stardom can be a double-edged sword and now there has been some outside pushback against him.

Khan has heard some of that outrage too. As he explained on KFC Radio, while Khan has heard the issues some people have with seeing stories about him, he also doesn’t force anyone to run those stories or have a true ability to stop them.

“I would say definitely some comments there that are saying they’re tired of this guy,” Amir Khan said. “Which I don’t blame them. Everywhere on social media you go, they see me.”

For many people, the issue isn’t with Khan himself. Instead, it’s more like fatigue with seeing him everywhere they look on social media. That’s a frustration he can understand, even if it’s not about him as a person and isn’t something he can control.

“Some of it’s not full-on hating, it’s just they believe the coaches and players should get more exposure,” Khan said. “And I believe that too, but I’m not in control of the media. I can’t control what they say, what they do. I’m just doing my thing and if they overuse it that’s on them. I’m just gonna keep doing my thing.”

One thing is clear and that’s that the McNeese State team clearly loves him. Whether it’s the team wearing socks with his face on them, cheerleaders wearing shirts with his face on them, or the team dancing together before games, he was embraced by the team in a way managers rarely ever are.

Still, it’s not a surprise that those outside the program might take issue with Khan. After going viral, he’s reportedly received an NIL deal well into six figures. It’s the kind of deal that many think the players should be receiving, and not a team manager. Still, for the time being, he’s just going to continue to be himself.

Amir Khan calls reports of his move to NC State ‘a bit premature’

With McNeese State head coach Will Wade leaving for the same job at NC State, there have been rumors that Amir Khan is transferring there too. However, for the time being, all of that is a little bit premature.

“Yeah, so, you know, I just got home and, uh, I haven’t really focused on the future too much, you know. I’m definitely going to take a few weeks to figure out everything, consider all my options, and see where we go from there. You know, I would say the reports were a bit premature but I’m definitely, you know, open to following Coach Wade,” Khan said.

“You know, I think, like I said, he was my favorite coach before all of this happened, before I started working at McNeese so, you know, if I get a chance to continue working for him, I’ll definitely consider it.”
