McNeese State’s Amir Khan became a sensation towards the end of the college basketball season and into the NCAA Tournament. As for what’s next for him, though, has yet to be decided now that he’s back from March Madness.

Khan addressed his future during an exclusive interview on KFC Radio at Barstool Sports. He said he’d just gotten back to campus in Lake Charles following the Cowboys’ appearance in the tournament with him now having time to consider what he wants to do next. That would include now following Will Wade to NC State despite the reporting of that happening being “premature” at this point.

“Yeah, so, you know, I just got home and, uh, I haven’t really focused on the future too much, you know,” said Khan. “I’m definitely going to take a few weeks to figure out everything, consider all my options, and see where we go from there.

“You know, I would say the reports were a bit premature but I’m definitely, you know, open to following Coach Wade. You know, I think, like I said, he was my favorite coach before all of this happened, before I started working at McNeese so, you know, if I get a chance to continue working for him, I’ll definitely consider it.”

Khan, a senior manager for the ‘Pokes, went viral in his role with the program. That has since earned him around a dozen deals from brands, the three biggest being TickPick, Buffalo Wild Wings, and Insomnia Cookies, in NIL that have already netted him earnings “totaling well into the six figures”. That sensation only continued into the postseason with McNeese State going 28-7 in winning both conference titles consecutively in the Southland as well as pulling a first-round upset of Clemson.

As for his aspirations, Khan wants to get into coaching but wouldn’t be against continuing his role as a manager. That could be now for a college program or into the future in the association if an opportunity was there.

“Definitely, you know,” said Khan. “I think, I think, like, you know, that’s a dream of mine. So, for sure. If an NBA team approaches me after all this, I would definitely consider it. But I would say, you know, yeah – the dream is right now to get into coaching and, you know, I still have a lot more to learn from Coach Wade and, you know, he’s one of the best coaches in college basketball, so, and we already have a close relationship. So, I think, I think that would be, you know, sticking with him probably would be, you know, the thing I’d want to do.”

KFC Radio also pointed out the possibility for him to capitalize on this as far as a career in media. He would be up for that as well having previously tried a podcast before.

“Yeah, for sure. I absolutely, you know – whenever I’m hanging out with my friends or, you know, family, at work, I’m always talking about sports, you know. I’m always watching sports and, you know, I could talk about it forever. So, that’s definitely something I would consider,” Khan said. “You know, I had a podcast, you know, a while back, you know. It’s completely off the grid now and, you know, it wasn’t big but it was fun doing it, you know, with a few friends. So, yeah, definitely, I could myself considering it.

“For sure, yeah. A lot of people have been telling me that and I would love to do it, you know. After, you know, these next few weeks after I figure something out, you know, it’s definitely something, you know, I might do, you know, while trying to figure out what I’m doing coaching-wise.”

Khan will have a future of some sense with how his life changed over the last few weeks. It’s just about where he wants to focus his aura with all that’s available to him now that their season is over.

“I’m going to, you know, consider everything and, you know, just talk about it with my family and figure it out,” said Khan.
