Dan Orlovsky names Anthony Richardson as fit with DeMeco Ryans
Former Florida quarterback Anthony Richardson could be a fit on the Houston Texans under DeMeco Ryans, according to Dan Orlovsky. The ex-Gators quarterback entered the NFL Draft process and is projected as a first round pick.
The Texans underwent a rebuild last season but ended up with the No. 2 overall pick. Since the Bears are at No. 1 and have Justin Fields, Houston could have the pick of the litter among quarterbacks.
Orlovsky made the case for a Richardson-Ryans pairing with the Texans.
“Needs to bring OC with ‘em and hit on the QB,” Orlovsky wrote on Twitter. “Meco played in Hou under Kubs, and than has been in SF with Kyle. Whoever he brings as an OC is sure as heck going to come from those routes and the QB that comes to mind first: Anthony Richardson. See how it plays out.”
The Texans hired Ryans away from the San Francisco 49ers. Ryans rose to stardom as the defensive coordinator but returned to Houston as the team’s new head coach.
Ryans played for the Texans and Philadelphia Eagles as a linebacker during his playing career. Since he’s a defensive coach, the offensive coordinator hire is huge.
Orlovsky made the case that the Texans’ new offensive philosophy will have a mix of Kyle Shanahan and Gary Kubiak, two guys Ryans coached and played under, respectively.

Anthony Richardson to Houston Texans under DeMeco Ryans?
Orlovsky’s dream scenario at this point is Richardson to Houston. While quarterbacks such as Bryce Young, C.J. Stroud and Will Levis are projected higher in mock drafts, the former NFL quarterback likes the former Gator.
Richardson was not the full time starter until 2022. He finished his three seasons (22 games) with 3,105 yards, 24 touchdowns, 15 interceptions, a 54.7% completion percentage, 161 carries, 1,116 rushing yards and 12 rushing touchdowns.
As a member of the Class of 2020, Richardson was a four-star prospect out of Gainesville (Fla.) Eastside, according to the On3 Consensus. He was the No. 29 overall prospect in the state, the No. 14 quarterback prospect in the class and the No. 190 overall prospect in the class.
With more pressure on head coaches than ever before, Ryans must nail the offensive coordinator hire and quarterback selection.
Perhaps a pairing of Richardson and Ryans with the Texans is exactly what the franchise needs.
