Top 25 AP Poll basketball after Week 3
On3

The newest college basketball rankings are here as the 2024-25 AP Poll Top 25 was updated after Week 1 of the season.

There were some shakeups in the latest rankings but we also saw some teams dominate in the early slate of the season. Too early to tell to make any defining statements, but we got a bit more action under our belts.

Let’s dive into the latest AP Poll Top 25 rankings after Week 3 of the season.

1. Kansas

The Jayhawks remained undefeated and defeated UNCW 84-66, so suffice to say, they’re rolling right now. But the big one is Tuesday night against Duke.

Arguably the top game coming up, Kansas can further establish they are the best team in college basketball. They’ll also get a ranked contest against Creighton on December 4th.

2. UConn

UConn is also undefeated through three weeks, beating TAMUC 81-46. The non-conference games are feeding time for these Huskies.

The two-time defending champions get Memphis Monday afternoon, right around when this poll dropped with its updates! Ranked matchups with Baylor and Gonzaga loom on December 4th and 14th.

3. Gonzaga

Gonzaga took care of business last Wednesday 84-41 over Long Beach State. They’re back in action against West Virginia this Wednesday.

As the non-conference rolls along, the litmus test will be Kentucky on Saturday, December 7th before playing UConn a week later. Where will this team end up? No. 1?

4. Auburn

Auburn is still unbeaten following a 102-69 win over North Alabama last week. After a week of practice and rest, the Tigers will get Iowa State Monday night.

Not only that, Auburn has Duke next Wednesday (December 5th), so the schedule heats up now. Do Bruce Pearl and company keep it rolling?

The Cyclones have rolled so far this season but get their first real test Monday night. As alluded to, Auburn and Iowa State will certainly battle for early season supremacy.

In the latest win over IUPUI, the Cyclones boat raced them 87-52. Curtis Jones led the way with 20 points, six rebounds and one assist.

6. Houston (+1)

Houston improved to 4-1 on the season with an 80-44 win over Hofstra on Friday. After the weekend, the Cougars can squarely focus on Alabama Tuesday night.

In the win over the Pride, Joseph Tugler led the way with 17 points, four rebounds and four assists. Emanuel Sharp added 16 points, two rebounds and two assists.

8. Kentucky (+1)

Kentucky took care of Jackson State 108-59 last Friday to improve to 6-0 and it’s been a great start under Mark Pope. The Wildcats are back in action Tuesday evening against Western Kentucky.

However, they don’t get another ranked matchup until December 7th when they take on Gonzaga. Once the Wildcats open up SEC play in January, then we can see how high this team can climb.

9. Alabama (-1)

By the way, Alabama bounced back from its loss to Purdue. Last Wednesday, the Crimson Tide controlled a 100-87 win over Illinois.

Grant Nelson led the way with 23 points, eight rebounds and two assists. Here comes the brutal stretch: North Carolina, Rutgers, Alabama and Creighton.

10. Marquette (+5)

The Golden Eagles took care of the Bulldogs on Saturday, 80-69 and are now 6-0. It was quite the day for Marquette.

David Joplin led the way with 29 points and five rebounds. Ben Gold added 14 points and six rebounds.
