AP Poll Top 25 College Football Rankings released after Conference Championships
The latest AP Poll Top 25 rankings are in after conference championship weekend and there were some shake ups following another wild set of games.
We had some instant classic games and standout performances. It all leads to the College Football Playoff but we have another set of rankings to get through!
Let’s dive into the newest AP Poll Top 25 rankings after conference championship weekend.
1. Oregon
Oregon edged out Penn State in the Big Ten Championship 45-37 to claim their first conference title in a new home. Now at 13-0, Oregon is the only undefeated team in the country.
The Ducks are locked in to the No. 1 ranking as well as the No. 1 spot in the College Football Playoff. What a season for Dan Lanning and crew.
2. Georgia (+3)
Georgia knocked off Texas for the second time this season, but this time, 22-19 in overtime in Atlanta for the SEC crown. Since this shook things up, Georgia is bound for a first round bye in the playoffs.
Texas will take its lump and fall a bit, but this was impressive from the Bulldogs. Carson Beck hurt? No problem. Gunner Stockton did enough to guide the offense.
3. Notre Dame (+1)
Notre Dame sat back at home and weren’t made about not having a conference championship game. At 11-1, the Fighting Irish essentially got a bye week before hosting a playoff game.
With the way they’re playing, this could be one of the most dangerous teams in the country. They’ve won 10 games in a row after all!
4. Texas (-2)
Texas had its chances and man, this one hurts. The Longhorns’ overtime loss knocks them back to the first round of the playoff, at least they’ll host a game.
But they’ll be thinking about this one for a bit considering they’ve lost to Georgia twice this year. The Longhorns have national championship qualities, but they’ve been shakier in the second half of the season.
5. Penn State (-2)
Penn State fell short of its second Big Ten title under James Franklin and first since 2016. The Nittany Lions had their opportunities but turnovers doomed them and they couldn’t overcome 45 points from Oregon.
Still, Penn State will make the playoff and likely will host a first round playoff game. There’s still some opportunity to make this a special season.
6. Ohio State (+1)
Ohio State licked its wounds after the Michigan loss but they’ll have to turn it around fast. The Buckeyes are in line to host a playoff game and have to do a little extra work to win a national title.
Still, everyone knows how talented this team is. But it’s a matter of actually putting it altogether in the biggest moments of the season. The pressure is on Ryan Day.

7. Tennessee (-1)
Tennessee was another team that sat back at home and was just thinking about where it’ll go for the playoff. The Vols were just shy of going to Atlanta to play for the SEC title this season.
They’ll likely hit the road in the first round, but this could be a dangerous squad. If the offense can pick it back up, don’t rule out a run for this team.
8. Boise State (+2)
Ashton Jeanty made more of a case for the Heisman Trophy, helping Boise State win the Mountain West. It seems like the Broncos will get a first round bye, repping the Group of Five.
This is a really good football team, led by its superstar running back. Other than a loss to Oregon, Boise State has won every single game, going 12-1 ahead of the postseason.
9. Indiana
Indiana was another team who sat back and knew it did enough to make the playoff already. At 11-1, Curt Cignetti will get serious consideration for Coach of the Year.
But despite the record, Indiana might be bound for a road game to open up the playoff. Still, this squad has played like a top 10 team virtually all year.
10. Arizona State (+2)
Arizona State! Look at that! Cam Skattebo made his own Heisman case by leading the Sun Devils to a dominating victory over Iowa State.
In their first year in the Big 12, Arizona State was picked last in the preseason. Well, they ended up first and are set to get a first round bye in the playoffs.
