AP Poll Top 25 College Football Rankings released after Week 5
On3

The latest AP Poll Top 25 rankings are in after Week 5 of college football and there were some shake ups.

College football loves to bring us chaos and we had a little bit of it this weekend. Did you watch Alabama vs. Georgia? We hoped you did because that was nuts!

Let’s dive into the newest AP Poll Top 25 rankings after Week 5. This week, there’s a new team at the top of the rankings.

In fact, it’s pretty deserved if you watched this weekend. Not to mention the tease mentioned above.

1. Alabama (+3)

Alabama made the biggest statement of the year. Yes, we know it’s only the end of September, but that was a rollercoaster of emotions.

The Crimson Tide beat Georgia 41-34 in an instant classic after blowing a 28-0 lead. Then, Jalen Milroe and Ryan Williams happened. This team is a bonafide title contender, if they weren’t already.

2. Texas (-1)

Texas kept the train rolling with Arch Manning in a win over Mississippi State. The Longhorns’ QB accounted for three touchdowns in the victory.

Moving forward, it’s a matter of when Quinn Ewers will be able to return to full health. With two weeks before Oklahoma, it could be a Red River return for the original QB1.

3. Ohio State

The Buckeyes dominated Michigan State 38-7 in its Big Ten opener and asserted themselves as the best team in the league.

However, it’s still early and teams like Oregon and Penn State might have something to say about that. Heck, maybe Michigan? Still, Will Howard and Jeremiah Smith had another great day as a QB-WR duo.

4. Tennessee (+1)

Tennessee had the week off but will pivot and focus on Arkansas this coming weekend. It’s no walk in the park since the Vols have to travel.

But the Volunteers might be hotter despite halting play for a week. Everything is firing on all cylinders for Josh Heupel and company as Tennessee looks to get into the national title mix and the AP Poll ranking backs it up.

5. Georgia (-3)

Georgia definitely raised eyebrows with its comeback attempt against Alabama, making it an all-time regular season game. However, it was concerning to see the Bulldogs trail 28-0.

It looked like Georgia got hit by a freight train. And they still almost won the game! Make no mistake, this is still one of the best teams in the country.

6. Oregon (+2)

Oregon won its Big Ten opener against, well, an old Pac-12 foe in UCLA. Still, the 34-13 win on the road was solid all around.

Dillon Gabriel fired three touchdown passes in the win. This game was practically over at halftime as well. Let’s not forget the 103 yard day from Jordan James on the ground either.

7. Penn State (+2)

Penn State brought its white out energy against Illinois in a hard fought 21-7 win over the Fighting Illini. Illinois is certainly respectable this year, so this is a solid win.

Nick Singleton and Kaytron Allen had nearly 200 yards combined and controlled the game on the ground. Penn State remained undefeated and kept it rolling, staying in the top 10 of the AP Poll.

8. Miami (-1)

Miami avoided the upset thanks to replay review on the final play! In all seriousness, this game went back and forth as Virginia Tech came to play.

But it was the Hokies’ Hail Mary that wasn’t that defined the game. It was called a touchdown on the field and then overturned. Cam Ward was great again, but Miami should thank its lucky stars it’s still this high in the AP Poll.

9. Missouri (+2)

Missouri had a week off following its overtime win over Vanderbilt and it was good timing. The Tigers get a hot Texas A&M team that’s won four games in a row.

Having two weeks to prepare always helps. But now that the Aggies are rolling, this could go a long way in determining what kind of season Missouri will have as we go through the fall.

10. Michigan (+2)

Michigan returned to the top 10 of the AP Poll with a not-so-good performance in a win over Minnesota. Sherrone Moore definitely wasn’t happy after the game.

A win is a win, but you have to wonder if the ground and pound plus stifling defense model is going to work long term. It might be pretty tough for Michigan to keep up with teams like Ohio State and Oregon.
