There may not be a more hyped player heading into the 2025 college football season than Texas quarterback Arch Manning.

Unless you have been living under a rock, you’d know Arch hails from the prestigious Manning family. New Orleans Saints Hall of Famer Archie Manning, who played in the NFL from 1971-1984, is the patriarch of the family. He had three sons, Cooper, Peyton and Eli, two of which would go on to find profound success in the NFL.

Peyton Manning won two Super Bowls as an NFL quarterback (Indianapolis Colts and Denver Broncos), including a Super Bowl MVP (XLI). His brother Eli won two Super Bowls as well (both with the New York Giants), including Super Bowl MVPs in both victories (XLII and XLVI).

Although Cooper didn’t quite reach those levels, his son is now the latest in the family tree to carry on the family legacy.

Arch, who is now embarking on his first season as a starting quarterback, is the latest in the Manning family to seek success in the sport. He discussed his relationship with his namesake and grandfather Archie at SEC Media Days this week, including the reveal that the eldest Manning still signs every text he sends his grandchildren.

“My grandfather told me to keep it short and sweet and be thoughtful, so here we are,” Manning told College Sports on SiriusXM at SEC Media Days. “He texts all the grandkids every morning a bible verse and a motivation text, so I hear a lot from him.”

“It’s a little bit of both,” he responded if they were personal or group texts. “It’s kinda different. And he signs off his name like, I know it’s you!”

In 10 games last season, Arch passed for 939 yards, nine touchdowns and two interceptions. He seems primed for a Heisman-caliber season in 2025 under head coach Steve Sarkisian as the Longhorns seek their first National Championship since 2005.

“We’re really close,” Manning said about his grandfather at the Manning Passing Academy last month. “Like I said, he came over to the house all the time. Went to all my practices in high school. He texts me every single morning no matter what. So he’s just the perfect role model for me. Such a great guy and this camp kind of shows the person he is.”

Texas opens the 2025 season on the road at Ohio State on August 30.
