Arch Manning throws first touchdown of career vs. SEC opponent
Arch Manning has gotten quite a bit of playing time in a Texas uniform, most notably last week against Louisiana-Monroe with his first-ever start. Another first occurred for the second-year quarterback on Saturday with Mississippi State in Austin — a touchdown throw against an SEC opponent.
After finding some success early in the game, Manning watched most of the first half from the sideline as Mississippi State controlled the clock. However, getting the ball back with around two minutes to go, head coach Steve Sarkisian went into turbo mode.
Texas slowly made its way up the field before Manning set himself up for a big shot. The quarterback delivered a perfect strike down the left sideline, finding DeAndre Moore for a 49-yard touchdown. A great throw from Manning with pressure in his face.

The stat sheet looks incredible for Manning heading into the halftime break. He has completed 15 of his 19 throws for 202 yards and the touchdown. Moore almost caught a touchdown on the opening drive of the game but was ruled down at the one. Running back Jaydon Blue punched the ball in instead.

Considering the opponent, there might be some extra juice from the Manning family. Grandfather Archie and Uncle Eli both famously played for the Ole Miss Rebels. As fans of the SEC know, the Egg Bowl runs quite deep and there might not be a whole lot of love for Mississippi State. Unfortunately for the Bulldogs, another Manning is hurting them in SEC play.
Moving back to Saturday’s game, Sarkisian has not been able to get the Texas offense in too much of a consistent rhythm. A turnover has not helped but the Longhorns have just 10 rushing yards and seven attempts at the break. Not great for a team that prides itself on having a stout offensive line.
Getting the ball coming out of the break, opportunities will be there. Manning has been sticking to his gunslinger self and hopes he can lead Texas to a more comfortable lead in the second half.
