WATCH: Arizona-Arizona State rivalry game ends with bench-clearing brawl, 5 ejections
It is officially rivalry week across the college football landscape and that can only mean one thing. Verbal sparring and fighting. Emotions run hot in these games and that’s part of what makes these games so very great. It often doesn’t take much for two rivals to get into it and on Friday afternoon, the Arizona and Arizona State game ended in a bench-clearing brawl.
Check out the video below.
Five players were ejected in the melee, which isn’t surprising.
In the third quarter, the Arizona and Arizona State mascots even got into it and threw punches, so the tone was set for this one from the very start. The mascot fight did seem pretty funny since the cheerleaders were laughing as they separated them.
Check that one out.
The Arizona State Sun Devil, also known as “Sparky” got in some nice haymakers. As did Wilbur the Wildcats mascot. The cheerleaders were laughing about it and having some good fun. The rivalry is also known as the “Duel in the Desert”.

The Wildcats won the game in a 38-35 classic. One thing is for sure, a game ending in a brawl like this one did, it’s only going to toss even more fuel on the fire of the rivalry.
The Arizona Wildcats had an incredible performance from their running back
Arizona was carried on Friday night by an epic performance from their running back, Michael Wiley. The junior tailback erupted for 214 rushing yards and three touchdowns on just 12 carries–averaging a mind-boggling 17.8 yards per carry. He scored a touchdown one out of every four times he touched the ball. Those are just outrageous numbers. The Arizona State Sun Devils were paced by their quarterback, Trenton Bourguet, who completed 37 of 49 passes for 376 yards, while tossing in three touchdowns and two interceptions.
