Arizona State forward Amier Ali plans to enter NCAA transfer portal

According to On3’s Joe Tipton, Arizona State forward Amier Ali plans to enter the NCAA transfer portal. Ali is a former top-100 prospect and wound up spending just one season in Tempe. Plenty of names have put themselves on the open market thus far but Ali will certainly get some looks.
In 32 games last season, Ali started in just four games. He averaged 5.5 points and 3.1 rebounds in just over 19 minutes per game. A season-high of 18 points was recorded against Texas Tech as five of his seven double-figure scoring efforts came against Big 12 foes.
Ali played high school basketball at Columbus (OH) Canyon International Academy, where he was a four-star prospect. He was the No. 72 overall recruit in the 2024 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.
“Amier Ali is a shot-maker; that is to be considered his superpower,” On3’s Jamie Shaw said in a scouting report of Ali. “He plays with the utmost confidence. He is confident in catch-and-shoot situations, with range that extends beyond the three-point arc. He can also knock down a two and three-dribble pull-up in the mid-range. He is an average athlete with average length.
“So he can struggle to get past his man off the bounce in the half-court. This leads to some tough shots and shot selection questions. Also, there are some defensive questions there as well. When the shot is not falling, how is he helping the team? When the shot is falling, however, he can string off a good number of points in a row.”
