Rayshon Luke will leave the state of California to play football at Arizona in college.

SAN ANTONIO, Texas – For just the second time in the past 10 years, Arizona has landed a football player from St. John Bosco.

Four-star running back Rayshon Luke announced at Saturday’s All-American Bowl that he will be teaming up with the Wildcats at the next level. He joins Class of 2012 offensive lineman Beau Boyster as the only other recruit from St. John Bosco to head to Arizona for college.

Arizona’s victory in Luke’s recruitment today did not come without some competition. Down the home stretch, Luke had narrowed his process down to a top four that also featured Louisville, San José State and UCLA.

In fact, the speculation was that Louisville had the edge in Luke’s recruitment coming into the week. Over the past few days, momentum started to build up in favor of the Wildcats.

Ahead of the announcement by Luke, On3’s Recruiting Prediction Machine gave Arizona the best shot at receiving a commitment from him. They were given a 67.7 percent chance of adding Luke to their 2022 class, with Louisville second at 30.7 percent.

Why Arizona won out for Luke

Head coach Jedd Fisch and his staff got into the mix for Luke late in the process. An offer was not extended until Dec. 4, but the staff did conduct a school visit with him and got Luke on campus within the next seven days.

That dedication — along with Arizona not being too far away from home — assisted in today’s big commitment for the school.

“It’s Arizona. It’s five hours away from Cali. Of course, who wouldn’t want to be home?” Luke previously told On3. “Coach Jedd Fisch, he makes it feel like home… he’s amazing. Coach Scottie Graham, the running backs coach, is amazing. They all make me feel like I’m one of theirs, and I’m not one of theirs yet. That’s just what I look into. I like the family-oriented organization.”

Luke, a 5-foot-8, 156-pounder who wants to contribute in multiple ways when he gets to college, is also intrigued by the Wildcats’ offense.

“The offense is amazing. It’s balanced. Run the ball, throw the ball,” Luke said. “I don’t want too much running or too much passing. Plus, I’m trying to do running back and slot, so it will work in my favor to do both.”

With his announcement, Luke becomes commitment No. 22 for Arizona in the 2022 cycle. Some of the other noteworthy members of this class are Ephesians Prysock, Keyan Burnett and Tetairoa McMillan.

Their spot in the On3 Consensus Football Team Recruiting Rankings prior to today was No. 34 in the nation. The Wildcats also had the fourth-best class in the Pac-12, ahead of both USC and Utah.

Luke is their fourth-highest rated player in this class with a No. 275 consensus ranking. He is listed as the No. 19 running back and the No. 23 player in California in his class.
