Arkansas transfer RB Dominique Johnson commits to TCU

Former Arkansas running back Dominique Johnson is joining the TCU Horned Frogs via the NCAA transfer portal, he announced via social media. He’d previously been with the Razorbacks since 2020.

In four seasons, Johnson played the last three years for Arkansas. He logged career highs in 2021 with 97 carries for 575 yards and seven touchdowns. This past season, in 10 games, Johnson had 31 carries for 167 yards and one touchdown. He also reeled in nine catches for 75 yards and a score throughout his career.

As a member of the Class of 2020, Johnson was a three-star recruit out of Crowley (Texas) High, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He was the No. 196 overall prospect in the state, the No. 116 running back in the class and the No. 1,540 overall prospect in the class.

Moreover, in the team’s first scrimmage of the fall in 2023, Dominque Johnson was excellent for the Arkansas Razorbacks.

“He got a pretty good workout,” coach Sam Pittman said at the time. “Had another nice run too, actually the officials whistled him dead when he put his hand down, but I don’t think he was. I think he would have been off to the races on another one too.”

Pittman was honest about the goals of Arkansas during the spring portal window this year though, and it’s evident Johnson was looking for a fresh start.

“We don’t want to lose any of our players,” Pittman said of the upcoming spring portal. “And I had to talk with our team and I said, ‘Hey, we just don’t lose anybody that we have and don’t add anybody, we’re gonna have us a fine football team. So the number one thing is I don’t want to lose anybody. We’re going to. I mean, I hope not but we could. 

“I don’t know why you’d want to leave this team. This is a good football team, but I understand the landscape of football.”
