Arterio Morris the first 2022 commit for Texas Longhorns Basketball
Chris Beard has dominated in the portal since taking over the Texas Longhorns basketball program.
And now Beard has added to the momentum for the Longhorns picking up a commitment from five-star guard Arterio Morris (iSchool Academy).
The 6-foot-3 ultra athletic guard made an on official visit to Texas June 14, and that was the lone summer visit.
Morris becomes the first five-star ranked guard to pick Texas since Andrew Jones in the 2016 class. Morris is also the first five-star point guard to commit since Myck Kabongo in the 2011 class.
The Texas Longhorns beat out Kansas, Florida, Georgia and Oregon for the one-time Memphis verbal.
Morris starred on the AAU circuit in the spring and summer playing for Dallas Showtyme Elite. The blend of elite speed, ability to finish in traffic and improved perimeter consistency places Morris among the nations best. The Texas Longhorns staff has been front and center at Morris’ games ever since the live evaluation period began.

Morris led Dallas Kimball to the 5A state championship game as a junior. The explosive point guard averaged 23.1 points, 6.5 assists, 6.3 rebounds, 3.3 steals and 2.2 blocks per game. As a result, Morris took home all-state honors and was named the Dallas Morning News Player of the Year.
The explosive guard will play his senior season at iSchool Academy alongside five-star guard Keyonte George. Similarly, George is a lean to the Texas Longhorns following June visits to Baylor, Kansas and Oklahoma State.
The Texas Longhorns are also targeting a number of other prospects in the 2022 class. Included in those are front court five-star center Kel’el Ware (North Little Rock), PF Kijani Wright (Windward School) and PF Yohan Traore (Polific Prep). Backcourt targets include Cason Wallace (Richardson), Anthony Black (Coppell) and Rowan Brumbaugh (Northfield Mount Hermon).
