Ashton Jeanty states he should win Heisman Trophy over Travis Hunter
As the Heisman Trophy race heats up, Travis Hunter and Ashton Jeanty remain at the forefront. The two stars are seen as the favorites for college football’s top honor, and Jeanty thinks he should win it over Hunter.
Jeanty discussed the Heisman conversation on Sleeper’s Kickin’ It With Dee and pointed out Hunter’s achievements. The Colorado standout makes an impact on both sides of the ball as a wide receiver and cornerback, playing nearly every snap.
But Jeanty leads the Boise State offense as the top rusher in the country. Although he watches what Hunter does in Colorado, Jeanty thinks he should bring home the Heisman Trophy.
“He is balling,” Jeanty said of Hunter. “But I just feel like what I’m doing, it’s just too special. … I give credit where credit is due. I watch Travis, I watch his games. Incredible player. I’ve never seen people do what he’s doing. But I know myself, I know my talents. I feel like I’m the best player in college football.”
Boise State didn’t waste time starting Ashton Jeanty’s Heisman campaign, doing so before the season even started. He’s living up to the billing in a big way, though, averaging 192.7 rushing yards and leading the nation with 23 rushing touchdowns entering Week 12.

Hunter, meanwhile, continues to emerge as the top playmaker in college football and is a big reason Colorado is in the College Football Playoff picture. He not only has 856 receiving yards and nine touchdowns on offense, but also has 21 tackles and two interceptions on defense.
Those numbers are a big reason why On3’s Andy Staples, Ari Wasserman and J.D. PicKell picked Hunter as the Heisman frontrunner entering Week 12. However, On3’s Charles Power put Jeanty in the top spot. He cited Jeanty’s performance against Nevada to keep Boise State in the mix for the CFP.
“Saturday’s win over Nevada is a great example of why Ashton Jeanty is a leading Heisman Trophy candidate,” Power said. “He kept Boise State’s playoff hopes alive in a tight win over Nevada in a game where the Broncos only threw for 119 yards. Jeanty rushed for 209 yards and three touchdowns, with over half of his yardage coming after contact.”
