Assessing the confidence level of USC heading into Michigan
USC football has opened up the 2024 campaign 2-0, thanks to some improved play from their defensive unit and some spectacular play from quarterback Miller Moss. Moss has looked spectacular, completing 72.7% of his passes for 607 yards, while tossing in two touchdowns and no interceptions. On the Thursday edition of the On3 Roundtable, Kaiden Smith asked WeAreSC’s Scott Schrader about the confidence level of the Trojans heading into their highly anticipated matchup this week with the Michigan Wolverines.
“You know I think the confidence level was pretty high heading into the start of the season. The LSU game–we did our preview of that–kind of went as expected. Right? USC defense stepped up and obviously last week was a game you’re supposed to win. But it was the first shutout that USC has had since 2011,” Schrader explained.
“So, they’re off to a great start. Had a bye week. There’s a couple of guys that were dinged up that they’ll have back for Michigan. There’s a really, really high level of confidence that the USC football players have in their coaching staff right now across the board. So, I would expect USC to go into Ann Arbor and play another really, really good football game,” Schrader finished.
USC played incredibly well against LSU in the opener
USC quarterback Miller Moss played exceptional in the opener against LSU, delivering strike after strike when it counted the most. Moss completed 27 of 36 passes for 378 yards, while tossing in a touchdown with no interceptions.

He dropped this beauty of a dime late in the fourth quarter to get the Trojans in position to get the game-winning touchdown run by Jo’Quavious Marks. Then there was another one, when he dropped back at the 35-yard line and sent a gorgeous spiral to where only Ja’Kobi Lane could get it. The 28-yard touchdown strike put the Trojans up with 5:44 remaining in the fourth quarter.

On the game-winning drive, Moss connected on five of six passes for 56 yards, allowing the Trojans to get into position for the winning score. His performance was remarkable, but plenty of credit has to be given to USC head coach Lincoln Riley for some brilliant play-calling throughout the game.
The play of the night and one of the best plays of the 2024 college football season came when USC receiver Kyron Hudson hauled in an insanely acrobatic one-handed grab. The unbelievable catch set social media ablaze. It will be marked down as one of the best plays of the season. It’ll be fascinating to see if anyone can top it, but it’s going to be really, really tough.
USC and Michigan are set to clash on Saturday, September 21st. Kick is set for 3:30 PM EST. The game will be nationally televised on CBS.
