Kent State defensive back A’Tiq Muhammad was stretched off on a cart just before halftime in Saturday’s game against Florida State. Muhammad took a big hit while trying to tackle Seminole wide receiver Amaree Williams and was down for several minutes.

As the second half kicked off in Tallahassee, the ACC Network broadcast offered a positive update on Muhammad. “I just got word that A’Tiq can move everything and feel everything,” said ACC Network sideline reporter Victoria Arlen. “He is going to the hospital (Tallahassee Memorial) just for precautionary reasons.”

Both teams took a knee around Muhammad while he was loaded up on a cart and driven off the field. Prior to his exit, he led the Golden Flashes with five tackles.

“We just had a very difficult situation at the stadium,” ACC Network broadcaster Jorge Sedano said following the injury. “A’Tiq Muhammad, the redshirt junior cornerback transfer from UTEP, was carted off. Did see he had consciousness. Eyes were open and he was blinking. Good sign there, but he was upended during a play near the sideline.”

FSU quarterback Tommy Castellanos injured in game as well

Florida State quarterback Tommy Castellanos also exited Saturday afternoon’s game against Kent State near the end of the first half with an apparent ankle injury. He did return for the second half in Tallahassee.

It’s highly unlikely Castellanos would have played much in the second half anyway, as the Seminoles led 42-7 just before halftime. Although he was ruled out, he jogged out of the locker room onto the sideline to spend the second half standing with teammates.

The injury occurred late in the second quarter just before a weather delay was called. After throwing a pass, Castellanos was rolled up on by multiple defenders. Per Warchant.com, he walked with a slight limp to the locker room.

Prior to his exit, Castellanos was enjoying another big outing. He completed 10/13 passes for 205 yards, no scores and one interception. He seemed well on his way to the first 300-plus passing yard performance of his career. With the Seminoles seemingly rolling, it’s very well possible that he could not return to the game.

Freshman quarterback Kevin Sperry entered in relief of the injured Castellanos, marking the first game action of his young career.
