Auburn 4-star DL commit Nate Marshall visiting Texas
Before even taking the field on Saturday, Texas has already received good news on the recruiting front. Four-star defensive lineman Joseph Mbatchou, a former Florida pledge, announced his commitment to the Longhorns.
The 2025 Texas class now features three DL prospects, but Steve Sarkisian and Co. wouldn’t scoff at adding another — and a big name committed elsewhere in the SEC is in Austin this weekend.
Oak Park (Ill.) Fenwick four-star Auburn DL commit Nate Marshall was potentially expected to be back on The Plains on Saturday night, but he’s instead in the Lone Star State to watch the Longhorns take on Kentucky:
Marshall flipped his commitment to Auburn from Michigan on Aug. 23, continuing what was an electric summer filled with recruiting wins for Hugh Freeze and the Tigers. Other programs have since remained after Marshall, though he’s remained solid to AU since the flip. Texas has some juice on the trail with National Signing Day just 11 days out, though, and it’ll look to make a move with the 6-foot-4, 265-pounder this weekend.
Marshall is the No. 59 overall prospect and No. 7 DL in the 2025 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He’s also the No. 3 player in Illinois.
Texas looking to close 2025 cycle with a bang
Texas has multiple top targets on campus this weekend, including Marshall and Oklahoma five-star offensive tackle commit Michael Fasusi. The Longhorns now have 24 commits in the fold with the addition of Mbatchou and also have the No. 4 class in the On3 Industry Team Recruiting Rankings.

“Florida was right there, but with Texas, it is mainly the people that make it special,” Mbatchou told On3 upon making his commitment. “I believe fully in coach Sark (Steve Sarkisian), coach Kenny Baker and all those people. I believe they have my best interest in mind.”
The Longhorns have been in multiple recruiting battles with Florida down the stretch. The Gators have been working to flip four-star wide receiver Jaime Ffrench, though he too is in Austin this weekend visiting.
Texas’ class features eight top-100 prospects, including three five-stars. Sarkisian and his staff have an opportunity to leave a serious impression on Marshall this weekend.
Nate Marshall Scouting Summary
On3 writes this of Marshall as a prospect:
“Bendy big man that has unbelievable balance and body control for his stature combined with the power and explosiveness that makes him borderline unblockable at the point of attack. Two-way player that lines up at tight end and wide receiver as well. Measured in at 6-foot-4, 270 pounds during summer campus visits. Tested well in agility drills during camp settings. Great weight distribution throughout his frame. Possesses excellent raw power and shock in his hands. Has the ability to rush the passer from the edge if asked to do so. Will develop proper pad level and contact initiation at the next level with collegiate coaching. Has tremendous upside due to frame and athletic tools. Best football is ahead of him.”
