Auburn 4-star WR commit Devin Carter returns to Florida State for another spring visit

Florida State was the first to land a commitment from Douglasville (Ga.) Douglas County four-star wide receiver Devin Carter back in 2023. That early pledge didn’t stick, however, and it was Auburn that landed a verbal from the 6-foot pass-catcher this January.
Carter remains committed to the Tigers, but he returned to Tallahassee at the end of March and is already back on FSU’s campus again this week to get another look at the ACC program:
Carter is a Florida State legacy recruit, as his father is former star running back Dexter Carter. His interest in the Seminoles has been reinvigorated following the hiring of new offensive coordinator Gus Malzahn and receivers coach Tim Harris Jr.
“They have been calling me every week, almost every day, trying to get me back,” Carter told Warchant after visiting last month. “Coach Gus Malzahn has been on it, Coach (Mike) Norvell and Coach Harris have been on it as well. So it was obviously a need to get back and get the new feeling around here.”
Auburn won’t be keen on letting Carter slip away from its 2026 class, though. Head coach Hugh Freeze and the Tigers have gotten him back to The Plains twice since he committed, and Carter told Auburn Live last month that he’s “locked in” with AU.
“You know, you still have to play your recruiting process, you never know what can happen, but I’m locked in with Auburn,” he said. “Coach (Marcus) Davis is more than half the reason why, Coach Freeze is also up there, but Coach Davis is the realest coach I’ve met in this recruiting process. He’s down to earth and I can’t wait to be around him every day.”
Carter’s recruitment continue to looks far from over as the Tigers and Seminoles wrangle for one of the Peach State’s top recruits in the nation. He’s currently the second highest-ranked commit in Auburn’s 2026 class to date.

Looking at Florida State’s 2026 class thus far
To date, the Noles have eight commits on their 2026 pledge list, which ranks No. 15 in the nation, according to the On3 Industry Team Recruiting Rankings.
All eight commits are in-state. Marianna (Fla.) four-star running back Amari Thomas headlines alongside a group of blue-chip defensive backs in Vero Beach (Fla.) four-star ATH Efrem White, Tampa Plant four-star cornerback Darryon Williams, Homestead (Fla.) Northwestern four-star safety Tedarius Hughes and Miami Barbara Goleman four-star safety Darryl Bell.
White is the top-ranked commit, ranking as the No. 199 overall prospect in the nation. Williams is the No. 31 corner in the cycle, while Hughes and Bell are the No. 25 and 27 safeties in the class, respectively.
Miami Central three-star linebacker Karon Maycock, Orlando Jones three-star offensive tackle Xavier Payne and Clearwater (Fla.) Calvary Christian three-star interior offensive lineman Michael Ionata round out the class to date.
